Wang Yue stayed busy until evening. When he saw that no one else was coming up the mountain, he shut the temple gates, then went to the nearby woods, picked out several large trees, chopped off their trunks, and carried them back.
The trees crashing down made quite a racket. Tan Tai Jin, Ye Xi Wu, and Chun Tao heard it, but they figured it would take at least an hour to whittle a tree down into wooden stakes. They never expected Wang Yue to return in less than half a quarter of an hour.
Wang Yue didn't care what Ye Xi Wu, Tan Tai Jin, or Chun Tao thought. He briskly cut the wood into several sections in the clearing to the left of the temple, then picked out four pieces and drove them hard into the ground.
