Wang Yong's bruised backside still hadn't healed, so he stayed home. He watched Wang Yue work without helping, simply because he was angry with him. He was also worried Wang Yue would hold him down and let Grandfather Wang beat him, so he hadn't spoken to Wang Yue at all these past few days.
After watching Wang Yue work for several days, Wang Yong finally understood what he was trying to do. He sneered, "You've been busy for ages, but couldn't you solve the problem with just one hole?"
Wang Yue thought his old man hadn't been beaten enough. It looked like he'd have to find time to get Grandfather Wang to give him another thrashing.
Just then, Song Ying came home from work. Hearing what Wang Yong had said, she scoffed, "Listen to yourself. Does that sound like something a decent person would say? You're a grown man, but even a little kid knows better than you."
Wang Yong opened his mouth to argue, but remembered Grandfather Wang had said he'd keep beating him if he started another quarrel with the neighbors. Reluctantly, he shut his mouth.
He was still unconvinced, though. He glared at Song Ying, then went back inside by himself.
Seeing that Wang Yong had finally stopped causing trouble, Wang Yue smiled and reminded Song Ying, "Auntie Song, I raised the ground in our yard a little. You should widen your drain outlet, or if it rains tomorrow, the water won't drain fast enough and it'll flood back into your house."
Song Ying's mind was clearly elsewhere. After hearing him, she asked uncertainly, "You think it'll rain tomorrow? I'll tell Old Lin tonight!"
She didn't really take it to heart. It wasn't until they went to bed that night that she mentioned it to Lin Wufeng.
