Qiao Sanli had originally wanted to go back to the main room with Wang Yue, but after hearing what he said, she immediately added,
"Dad, I'll eat here too. I want to look at that ceramic Mom!"
Seeing how resolute the two children were, and how frightened they seemed, Wang Yue could tell they were afraid he would get angry.
Feeling sorry for them, Wang Yue said sternly, "If you come out and eat like good children, I'll make one for each of you later, so you can keep them with you."
Of course, the ones Wang Yue meant to make weren't the kind that contained ashes. They would simply be little ceramic dolls.
With the skills Wang Yue had learned from Cheng Jianjun, though, he could make the ceramic figures incredibly lifelike—almost like real people.
Of course, when Wang Yue said "lifelike," he meant that they would look cute and cartoonish, making them more suitable for children to take out with them.
Sure enough, Qiao Yicheng and Qiao Sanli were distracted. They both gazed at Wang Yue with hopeful eyes and asked almost in unison,
"Dad, do you mean it?"
"You'll keep your word?"
Meeting the two children's distrustful gazes, Wang Yue couldn't help feeling a pang in his heart.
But when he thought about how Qiao Zuwang was the one who had caused all this trouble, Wang Yue quickly calmed down. Instead, he felt even more sympathy for the children.
He softened his voice, trying not to scare them.
"Don't worry. After we eat and take your mom to the cemetery, we'll bring your younger siblings along and make them together."
Reassured by Wang Yue's answer, the two children still seemed a little doubtful, but they stopped insisting and carried the food to the main room with him.
