Bronya's voice came from beside Zhao Bai's ear. He nodded, stopped, and turned to look into the hazy rain. The sound of leather shoes splashing through water approached, and a tall, thin figure gradually emerged.
Solemn.
A pitch-black priest's robe, a tightly tied Roman collar, a small strip of snowy-white undersleeve exposed—he looked as though he had come to attend a funeral that had long been destined.
"Damp earth buries a child's smile. Next spring, bright red flowers will bloom. The flowers bloom smiling, but the child's smile is lost forever," Otto recited.
Ignoring him, Zhao Bai merely tilted his head as if speaking on the phone. "Bronya, come out and meet your fan."
"Lord Bishop, put the act aside for now."
After saying that, Zhao Bai held Yue Xia and ducked beneath a tree to shelter from the rain, facing Otto from across the road.
"Save her."
"Are you ordering me?"
After receiving a negative answer, Zhao Bai said nothing more and waited in silence. Bronya silently emerged from the rain, Heavy Cannon Rabbit shielding her from it. She held a stack of freshly printed newspapers in her arms, still carrying the scent of ink.
Otto frowned.
Bronya handed him a newspaper. Otto took it and lowered his head to read it carefully.
The front-page headline:
"Shocking: Otto Apocalypse, Overseer of Schicksal, sneaks into St. Freya at night—just to steal batteries."
There was even a picture below it.
The blond man was crouched furtively beside a two-wheeled vehicle, fiddling with it. The Overseer's face was exceptionally clear; the evidence was irrefutable.
"Tsk."
Otto frowned.
