Background / History

Luna first meets Luke Gaunt at Kate's Cats, where she reads The Quibbler aloud to a circle of unusually attentive kittens. Luke is immediately struck by her dark golden-brown hair, silver eyes, and ethereal presence. 8

At age ten, Luna introduces herself to Luke and reveals that she will attend Hogwarts the following year. She can perceive some of his thoughts despite his active Legilimency, though her perception is incomplete. The two bond while choosing a cat, and Luna introduces him to the creatures she cares for. 9

Luna is the daughter of Xenophilius Lovegood and Pandora Lovegood. After Pandora's death, Luna sometimes stays with Madam Katharine, a friend of her mother. 11 192 Pandora left Luna a protective green-gem necklace, which Luna later gives to Luke because her intuition tells her he may need it more. 192
