The year 496 of Dawn.
Five in the afternoon, in a corner of the classroom.
Mu Feng rested his right cheek on his hand, his listless gaze fixed on the teacher lecturing diligently at the podium.
This was Mu Feng's second year at Wisdom Academy. Over the past year, he had constantly felt immense pressure, and dark circles had appeared beneath his eyes.
In his view, choosing this field was not about learning a skill. It was about deciding where the rest of his life would lead.
Academic performance could basically determine the kind of life one would have in the future.
If all his grades were passing and he proved capable of breeding spirit beasts, his future would be working at a breeding farm. He would probably retire at seventy-five. His life would be ordinary and mundane, but not overly exhausting.
After retirement, based on a normal lifespan, he would likely still have several decades of carefree old age ahead of him.
But if he only learned things halfway, it would be fine as long as nothing went wrong at work. If a spirit beast he bred was sent to the front lines and something went wrong, there would inevitably be an investigation. If it was found to have been caused by a work-related mistake, he might end up in prison. The length of the sentence would depend on why he had made the mistake.
If he failed to learn anything at all, where his future would lead became rather unpredictable.
If he got lucky and nothing went wrong, he would still have to live each day in constant fear. If he got unlucky, anything could happen anywhere.
Being sent to prison would already be a good outcome. In worse cases, he would be sent to the Radiation Mining
