Ch. 1423Divine Technique Test

Owl underwent tests at the Research Institute to awaken a divine technique, hoping to gain an edge over Ada, Daemon, and Orochimaru. After Chakra blasts and sealing techniques failed to awaken one, Amado revealed that Owl was not guaranteed to possess a divine technique, and Owl demanded to at least master Divine Technique Chakra Mode.

  • Owl arrived early for the divine technique test, while Amado gave him the testing procedure.
  • Ada, Daemon, and Orochimaru watched from nearby as Ada teased Orochimaru about Owl's survival, and Daemon sensed Orochimaru's thoughts of absorbing Owl's abilities.
  • Researchers struck Owl with repeated Chakra blasts, but he endured the impacts without awakening a divine technique.
  • Owl underwent a second test using various Sealing Techniques, but none awakened a divine technique.
  • Amado told Owl that he was not guaranteed to awaken a divine technique and clarified that Orochimaru's Divine Technique Chakra Mode was an advanced Chakra application, not a divine technique.
  • Owl angrily demanded that he at least master Divine Technique Chakra Mode like Orochimaru.

Ch. 1424New Divine Technique

Owl awakened the Divine Technique Conversion during the Research Institute’s ninjutsu test, gaining the ability to turn attacks into techniques that benefited him. Amado recognized that Owl could become too powerful to control and postponed further testing until the next day.

  • Amado ignored Owl’s protests and ordered the test to continue, while Scorpion proposed using a lethal heart talisman to control test subjects.
  • Owl endured a powerful Lightning Release attack, and the lightning around him transformed into green Yang Release Medical Ninjutsu that healed his wounds.
  • Tsunade identified the technique as Medical Ninjutsu, and Ada and Orochimaru realized Owl had awakened a Divine Technique.
  • Owl named his ability Conversion and explained that it changed attacks against him into techniques that benefited him.
  • Amado ended the test and scheduled more trials for the next day, intending to keep Owl occupied while he considered how to control him.

Ch. 1425Uncontrolled

Owl tested his Divine Technique, Conversion, against Orochimaru, and their fight ended in a stalemate. Amado grew concerned that Owl was slipping out of the Research Institute’s control, while Orochimaru secretly plotted to have Owl eliminated so he could absorb the Divine Technique within him.

  • Owl and Orochimaru fought in the testing ground, but Conversion neutralized most of Orochimaru’s attacks and neither could defeat the other.
  • Owl boasted that Conversion had no limits, but Amado warned him that sufficiently powerful attacks could overwhelm it.
  • Amado told Yakumo and Haku that Owl was becoming difficult to control, and Yakumo assured him the Akatsuki Organization could intervene if necessary.
  • Orochimaru urged Amado to report Owl as a danger, while Amado said he had already informed his superiors.
  • Orochimaru revealed that he had deliberately held back and hoped the Research Institute would decide to eliminate Owl, giving him a chance to absorb Owl’s Divine Technique.

Ch. 1426The Defection

Owl decided to defect from the Research Institute after his aides warned him that Orochimaru might move against him. As Owl’s escape triggered an alarm, Amado and Tsunade debated how to contain the danger, and Orochimaru offered to bring him back.

  • Owl’s aides warned him that Orochimaru might persuade the Research Institute to eliminate him, and Owl rejected their suggestion to attack Orochimaru.
  • Owl considered fleeing the Research Institute and, after weighing the threat posed by the Akatsuki Organization, ordered his aides to prepare for his departure.
  • Owl defected that night, setting off alarms and mobilizing the Research Institute’s guards.
  • Amado received news of Owl’s defection, while Tsunade argued that the Research Institute had to take responsibility for the danger it had created.
  • Amado said they lacked confidence in restraining Owl and had received no response from 'A'; Orochimaru offered to bring Owl back with authorization.

Ch. 1427Appearance

Amado refused to risk the Research Institute by arresting Owl, so Orochimaru went to monitor him while the Institute’s pursuit force attacked Owl’s defectors. Owl defeated the squad’s fighters and fled from Orochimaru, only to encounter Shinji waiting in the air.

  • Amado rejected Tsunade’s demand to arrest Owl and refused to send Ada and Daemon, so Orochimaru agreed to monitor him.
  • The Research Institute’s elite squad, led by Kabuto Yakushi, Delta, Ranmaru, and Deidara, fought Owl’s defectors in the mountains and quickly defeated them.
  • Owl struck down Kabuto Yakushi, Ranmaru, and Delta, and survived Deidara’s explosions without injury.
  • Owl abandoned his followers and fled when Orochimaru arrived, while Orochimaru pursued him onto a grassland.
  • Owl and Orochimaru stopped when they saw Shinji standing in the air before them.

Ch. 1428Let It All Out

Shinji confronted the defecting Owl and took him through a Space Gate to an alternate dimension so they could fight without endangering anyone. Owl's Transformation failed to protect him from Shinji's first blow, leaving him badly injured and aware of the gap between them.

  • Orochimaru's plan to capture Owl and steal his divine technique was interrupted when Shinji arrived.
  • Owl tried to negotiate with Shinji, but Shinji asked about Transformation and challenged him instead.
  • Shinji used the Body Flicker Technique to grab Owl and take him through a Space Gate to an alternate dimension.
  • Owl attacked Shinji, but Shinji struck him hard enough to send him crashing into an earthen peak.
  • Owl saw the deep depression in his chest and realized that Transformation had not overcome Shinji's superior strength.

Ch. 1429This Is a Relief!

Shinji tested the limits of Owl’s divine art, Transformation, first battering him with physical attacks and then cutting him with the Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion. The chapter ended with Shinji activating Godly Emperor Musubi, leaving Owl certain that another attack would kill him.

  • Owl survived Shinji’s first strike by converting the damage into force and discharging it into the ground.
  • Shinji became interested in Owl’s resilience and beat him through the air until Owl’s Transformation was pushed to its limit.
  • Shinji formed the Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion and slashed Owl, badly wounding him before Transformation healed the injury.
  • Owl threatened Shinji’s Research Institute, but Shinji continued his test and activated Godly Emperor Musubi.
  • Owl recognized Shinji’s overwhelming aura and became certain that he would die if Shinji attacked again.

Ch. 1430A Divine Art That Could Not Be Taken

Shinji tested Godly Emperor Musubi on Owl, overpowering him before taking him to the Flying Fortress for examination. Hikari successfully marked Owl with Yachihoko, but she could not take his divine art because Kiseki could not store divine arts.

  • Owl surrendered to Shinji, but Shinji attacked him to test Godly Emperor Musubi.
  • Shinji found that the transformation boosted his physical abilities by about fifty percent and amplified his ninjutsu by more than double, though it consumed a great deal of Chakra.
  • Shinji battered Owl until he was badly injured, then used Black Rods to disrupt Owl's Conversion and carried him through a Space Gate to the Flying Fortress.
  • Shinji examined Owl in his laboratory, extracted a cell sample, and summoned Hikari and Karin.
  • Hikari used Yachihoko to mark Owl, but she could not take Conversion because Kiseki could not store divine arts.

Ch. 1431The Plan Succeeds!

Shinji failed to seize Owl’s divine art directly, so he made Owl learn Karma to surrender it voluntarily. After dealing with the defection, Shinji lifted the Research Institute’s lockdown and confirmed that Amado’s Artificial Otsutsuki Project had succeeded.

  • Shinji healed Owl, then ordered Karin and Light to leave so he could deal with him alone.
  • Shinji took Owl to an alternate dimension, gave him a booklet on condensing Karma with Chakra, and demanded he master it within three days or die.
  • Owl realized Shinji wanted him to offer up his divine art, agreed to learn Karma, and secretly vowed to get revenge once he grew stronger.
  • Shinji returned to the Research Institute and told Amado that Owl had been dealt with, allowing the lockdown to end.
  • Amado reported that the defection had caused limited losses, and Shinji ordered tighter supervision of experimental subjects while praising the project’s success.

Ch. 1432Restrictions

After Owl’s defeat, Amado’s meeting at the Research Institute turned to preparations for the fourth ritual and ways to control its test subjects, while Orochimaru urged Kabuto to accelerate their own experiments. Shinji returned from the destroyed World No. 2 and headed to the Land of Spirits.

  • Amado told Tsunade, Orochimaru, Scorpion, and the other researchers that the people above had dealt with Owl, then began discussing the fourth ritual.
  • Tsunade warned that Scorpion’s curse technique could either kill a subject during the ritual or fail to control one afterward, and that a subject with Transmutation might remove it.
  • Orochimaru supported implanting the curse technique before a subject adjusted to their new strength, while the researchers considered other ways to restrain subjects.
  • Kabuto asked Orochimaru whether they should oppose the institute’s restraints, but Orochimaru said they should ease the institute’s concerns and increase the number of test subjects.
  • Orochimaru told Kabuto to speed up their experiments and admitted that Shinji had become increasingly difficult to understand.
  • Shinji left the Research Institute and traveled to the Land of Spirits after escaping World No. 2 by using World No. 3 as a stepping stone.

Ch. 1433Transfer Technique

Shinji prepared to use Owl as a sacrifice for his Divine Tree but first made him transfer his divine art of Transformation into a White Zetsu Clone with Karma. After Owl passed through Shinji’s Space Gate, he found himself atop a towering tree rather than back at the Research Institute.

  • Shinji decided Owl would be sacrificed after he had a chance to transfer his divine art, since Shinji needed an Otsutsuki offering and the remaining worlds offered only a brief window to gather energy.
  • Three days later, Shinji found Owl in the separate dimension and asked whether he had mastered Karma; Owl claimed he had.
  • Shinji gave Owl a sealed White Zetsu Clone and ordered him to transfer his divine art into it using Karma.
  • Owl transferred his divine art into the White Zetsu Clone, which Shinji stored in Daikokuten.
  • Shinji opened a Space Gate and sent Owl through, but Owl emerged atop a towering tree instead of at the Research Institute.

Ch. 1434The Third Chakra Fruit

Shinji fed Owl to the Divine Tree and consumed its third Chakra Fruit, while Orochimaru and Kabuto Yakushi prepared a separate ritual. The story left Orochimaru ready to begin once Genyumaru finished preparing.

  • Shinji led Owl to the Divine Tree, where its bud swallowed Owl as Shinji struck him with a Black Rod.
  • Shinji waited for the third Chakra Fruit to ripen, then ate it and experienced a powerful rebirth.
  • A week later, the Research Institute prepared for its next ritual, while Orochimaru’s group completed preparations of its own.
  • Kabuto Yakushi set up Orochimaru’s ritual site alone on an island in the far eastern reaches of the Shinobi World.
  • Orochimaru inspected the site and told Kabuto Yakushi to have Genyumaru begin preparing.

Ch. 1435Hiruko

Orochimaru oversaw Genyumaru’s ritual using the Chimera Technique and sacrifices transplanted with Otsutsuki Shibai’s cells. Genyumaru emerged with Six Paths level strength and wanted to rescue his people, but Orochimaru planned to keep him close until he could absorb Genyumaru’s divine technique.

  • Genyumaru arrived at the ritual site and agreed to undergo the procedure, hoping to gain the strength to free his people from the Daimyo’s oppression.
  • Kabuto Yakushi brought the bound sacrifices, and Genyumaru completed the ritual, entering Cocoon Transformation.
  • Genyumaru emerged from the cocoon with Six Paths level strength, his sanity intact, and asked Orochimaru if he could rescue his people.
  • Kabuto Yakushi persuaded Genyumaru to wait a week or two to adapt to his new power, while Orochimaru planned to absorb his divine technique.

Ch. 1436Failure

The Research Institute’s fourth ritual failed when its test subject transformed into a monster, forcing Haku to kill him and prompting Amado to order an investigation while preparations for a fifth ritual began. Shinji then visited Six Rings World, where contamination had spread across nearly a third of the planet and a new mage tower had been built for Shion.

  • Tsunade objected to selecting a vicious criminal for the fourth ritual, but the other senior officials let the plan proceed.
  • During the Cocoon Transformation stage in the Land of Snow, the test subject released his Chakra, became a monster, and killed the guards who tried to stop him.
  • The Research Institute’s elite squad fought the monster to a standstill until Haku used the Grass Cutter Sword to kill it with one strike.
  • Haku ordered Amado to report the failure to the lord, and Amado directed the teams to investigate while beginning preparations for the fifth ritual.
  • After checking Worlds 3, 5, and 6, Shinji visited Six Rings World and saw that the Plague Overlord had contaminated nearly thirty percent of it.
  • Arcane showed Shinji the mage tower Six Rings World had built for Shion.

Ch. 1437Shion, Archmage

Shinji visited Shion in the mage tower, where she had mastered twelve magic arrays but had not yet formed a Magic Ring. At a Lantern Bearer meeting, Shinji concluded that drawing out the Breeding Overlord depended on driving back the Plague Overlord, though he intended to wait until he had cultivated more Chakra Fruits before confronting it.

  • Arcane showed Shinji the mage tower and led him to Shion, who demonstrated twelve interwoven magic arrays.
  • Arcane explained that the Twilight Star Archmage had advised Shion to master more arrays before forging her Magic Ring, and Shion complained about being confined to the tower.
  • Arcane told Shinji that the mages knew Shion only as his teacher's disciple, while the Lantern Bearers handled her support discreetly.
  • Shinji and Arcane joined a meeting where Radiance Alice reported on the Six Rings World and the moon sealing a piece of the Breeding Overlord.
  • Shinji said the Breeding Overlord would not abandon its severed piece and might intervene if the Plague Overlord attacked it, so the group needed to find a way to drive the Plague Overlord back.
  • Shinji kept his plan to himself and decided to cultivate more Chakra Fruits before facing the Plague Overlord.

Ch. 1438The Reason for the Failure

Shinji concluded that the Overlord of Fear had sabotaged the Research Institute’s failed ritual and decided to attend its next attempt in person. Meanwhile, Orochimaru and Kabuto Yakushi discussed the suspicious failure before turning their attention to Genyumaru’s unexpected development.

  • Shinji chose to delay confronting the Plague Overlord, settled in World 5, and planted two protected Divine Trees.
  • Shinji read Amado’s report and suspected the Overlord of Fear had triggered the ritual leader’s rampage during Cocoon Transformation.
  • Shinji decided to attend the Research Institute’s fifth ritual to prevent further interference.
  • Kabuto Yakushi told Orochimaru that the ritual failure seemed suspicious, and Orochimaru agreed that something was wrong.
  • Kabuto Yakushi told Orochimaru that Genyumaru had a surprise, prompting Orochimaru to ask whether he had awakened a divine art.

Ch. 1439Absorbing the Divine Art

Genyumaru awakened the space-time Divine Art Claw Mark, but Orochimaru used his Absorption ability to steal it and fatally attack him. Genyumaru begged for his people’s lives as Orochimaru left Kabuto Yakushi to dispose of him, and Kabuto revealed they had already been killed.

  • Genyumaru demonstrated that his Claw Mark let him reach through marks and emerge from distant ones, and Orochimaru recognized it as a space-time Divine Art.
  • Orochimaru demanded that Genyumaru hand over Claw Mark, but Genyumaru marked Orochimaru and seized his neck through the mark.
  • Orochimaru used Absorption through the Claw Mark to drain Genyumaru’s strength and take control of the Divine Art.
  • Orochimaru broke Genyumaru’s neck and ordered Kabuto Yakushi to take care of him.
  • Genyumaru begged Orochimaru to help his people, and Kabuto Yakushi told him they had been dead for a long time.

Ch. 1440Clash

Shinji disrupted the Overlord of Fear’s attempt to sabotage the Research Institute’s fifth ritual, protecting Yamada Juichi as he completed Cocoon Transformation. He then drew the Overlord’s gathered power away from the ritual site, leaving the researchers unaware of the clash.

  • The Research Institute began its fifth ritual with death-row inmate Yamada Juichi as its host.
  • The Overlord of Fear sent black smoke to inflame Yamada Juichi’s fear, but Shinji exposed the attack with the Lamp and purified most of it.
  • The Overlord detected Shinji and sent its gathered power after him, while Shinji used Hiruko’s Mangekyō Sharingan technique Aya to absorb the fear inside Yamada Juichi.
  • Shinji sped away with the pursuing black smoke, and Yamada Juichi completed Cocoon Transformation with normal readings.
  • Orochimaru, Amado, and the other researchers believed the ritual had succeeded, unaware of Shinji’s clash with the Overlord of Fear.

Ch. 1441Had I Really Become This Strong?

Shinji effortlessly repelled and purified the Overlord of Fear’s power, realizing how much stronger he had become since his earlier battles. At the ritual site, Yamada Juichi emerged transformed and accepted the Research Institute’s Cursed Seals to avoid being treated as a threat.

  • Shinji stopped in a snowy valley and used Shinra Tensei to repel the Overlord of Fear’s approaching black smoke.
  • Shinji drew the scattered smoke together with Banshō Ten'in and purified it with the Lamp.
  • Shinji concluded that his dojutsu had grown powerful enough to easily defeat the small portion of the Overlord’s power reaching into the Shinobi World.
  • Yamada Juichi emerged from the ritual cocoon with horns and fair skin, and Amado judged his transformation more successful than Owl’s.
  • Amado told Yamada Juichi that the Research Institute would implant Cursed Seals to prevent betrayal, and Yamada Juichi agreed.
  • Scorpion’s team implanted several Cursed Seals in Yamada Juichi, who insisted that he would never betray the Research Institute.

Ch. 1442Thunderclap!

Shinji waited on the Divine Tree in World No. 5 as its energy was drained, then confronted an Overlord’s attack breaching the world’s spatial barrier. He chose to fight the incoming swarm, but its assault overwhelmed his senses and left him in danger.

  • Yamada Juichi failed to awaken a divine art despite the Research Institute’s tests, while Amado prepared for the sixth ritual.
  • Shinji calculated that World No. 5 had about thirty-seven days left and spent a month absorbing the third Chakra Fruit’s power while avoiding divine arts.
  • A thunderclap signaled damage to World No. 5’s spatial barrier, and black fog poured through from space toward Shinji.
  • Shinji decided to fight rather than flee and transformed using “Godly Emperor Musubi.”
  • Shinji recognized the fog as a swarm of black beetles and used “Shinra Tensei” to repel part of it.
  • The beetles closed in, and their jumbled sounds flooded Shinji’s mind as he prepared to use another dojutsu.
