To their surprise, the thing that had attacked them was a plant.
He had never seen a creature like it before, and couldn't help being curious.
But he didn't sense much of a threat from it. It probably wasn't an elite monster.
Still, he didn't let his guard down. It was a creature in the maze, and this was their first encounter with one, so it was best to be cautious.
He pulled Alya back a few more steps, well beyond the flower bud's range, then took out his Bone Staff.
Since its flower bud kept twisting like a snake's head, Gauss decided to make things simple and point the tip of his staff at the root where it joined the rock wall.
"Fire Bolt."
Red light quickly gathered at the tip of the staff.
"Hm?"
The instant he began casting, Gauss felt a faint resistance, as if some force in the surroundings were slightly suppressing fire.
But his spell was already underway. He didn't dwell on it, and a crimson Fire Bolt shot in the direction his staff pointed.
"Boom!"
The bolt struck the vine's root with precision. Flames surged up at once, and the tough stem snapped in the intense heat.
The whole plant fell from the rock wall and hit the ground with a thud.
On the ground, the spiky flower bud continued to open and close, twitching and bouncing around like it was having a fit.
But a kill notification had already flashed before Gauss's eyes.
"Snakevine killed ×1"
"Monster Kill Count: 1479"
He had successfully unlocked his twenty-first entry in the Common Monster Codex!
"Title acquired: [Snakevine Hunter]. This title will level up as your kill count increases."
"Current effect: Danger Foresight. When a hidden Snakevine tries to attack you, you will sense the danger
