The man approaching Gauss looked to be in his thirties or forties. He wore well-tailored, lightweight armor, with the emblem of the Great Serpent Adventurer Group emblazoned across his chest.
His steps were steady, his presence restrained. He was clearly no ordinary fighter.
Gauss and the others had been about to leave, but when they saw him approaching, they stopped for the moment.
The man walked up to them.
His gaze immediately settled on Gauss.
"Hello, Mr. Gauss," the man said evenly, holding out a hand.
He had identified Gauss as soon as he spoke, without any attempt at mystery.
"I'm William, field operations manager of the Great Serpent Adventurer Group. Our leader noticed you just now and sent me over to greet you."
Gauss understood. So Mr. Kidd of the Wefs Family had indeed been watching them.
After thinking it over, the only possible connection he could come up with was the Wefs Family's earlier invitation, delivered through Adele.
Could Kidd be looking to take out his family's displeasure on Gauss for turning them down?
Gauss's thoughts raced, but his expression remained as calm as still water.
Then he reached out and briefly shook William's hand.
"Hello, Manager William. Please give my regards to Leader Kidd as well."
Though Gauss had his suspicions, he maintained the proper courtesies for now. He wanted to see what the man was really after.
Kidd wouldn't have sent him over just to exchange greetings.
Sure enough, after a brief round of pleasantries, William continued.
"Our leader recognizes talent. He specifically asked me to find out whether you and your Half-snake person friend would be interested in joining the Great Serpent Adventurer Group's official combat division."
Huh?
Gauss had already braced himself for what might come.
Yet William had still come with an invitation.
