Tsunade kept leading Fifth Squad and took them on a border intelligence mission, where they clashed with Kumogakure ninja. Uchiha Chi manipulated Atsui and Samui to secure his teammates’ safety, but the revived Killer B confronted Chi and Tsunade as they stood together.

• Tsunade decided to remain Fifth Squad’s instructor, and she and Uchiha Chi reaffirmed that they would teach and learn from each other.
• Uchiha Chi spent time with Nohara Rin, who gave him homemade cookies, then resolved to confess her feelings to him through another dessert.
• Sarutobi Hiruzen sent Fifth Squad to retrieve border intelligence, and Tsunade accepted the mission after learning it might bring her a profit.
• Fifth Squad found the border safehouses empty and was ambushed by Killer B, Samui, and Atsui, while Kakashi was wounded in the fight.
• Uchiha Chi defeated Samui and used genjutsu and threats to make Atsui reveal that Kumogakure had taken Konoha’s informants.
• Samui swallowed poison, so Uchiha Chi brought her to a cabin and fetched Yūhi Kurenai to examine and treat her.
• Tsunade discovered that Killer B was a Jinchuriki and signaled Fifth Squad to retreat, but Atsui falsely claimed he had defeated the squad before stabbing Killer B.
• Uchiha Chi revealed his genjutsu had turned Atsui against Killer B, who revived and confronted Tsunade and Chi as they stood together.

Uchiha Chi captured Killer B and two Root operatives, then used their conflict with Shimura Danzō to spark an attack on Root Base. After Danzō lost a Sharingan to Izanagi and lunged for Chi’s eye, Namikaze Minato arrived and questioned him.

• Uchiha Chi and Tsunade defeated Killer B, and Chi used his Sharingan illusions to force the Eight-Tails to cooperate and spare Killer B.
• Tsunade brought Chi back to Konoha, where she warned him that Shimura Danzō might target him and gave him the Death Necklace.
• Root agents Yakushi Nonō and Aburame Torune attacked Chi, but he defeated them, captured Torune, and persuaded Nonō to join him by promising to protect her orphanage.
• Uchiha Chi asked Tsunade to reclaim the orphanage for the Senju clan, and she agreed while warning that Danzō would retaliate.
• Killer B asked Chi for help avoiding his return to Kumogakure, and Chi encouraged him to strike Root as retaliation for its attack.
• Tsunade confronted Danzō over the attack on Chi, while Chi announced that Root’s guards in the Confinement Room were dead and Killer B had gone berserk.
• Killer B rampaged toward Root Base, and Chi disrupted Danzō’s escape attempt before Killer B destroyed the entrance and fled north.
• Danzō blamed Chi for the destruction and revealed his Sharingan, but Chi stopped him from taking his eye as Namikaze Minato arrived.
