Background and History

Wang Yu is Great Xia’s only First Grade Martial Emperor and is regarded as its foremost martial artist. His Martial Emperor Hall can dispatch fighters to threatened battlefields across the country 49 350 468.

After leaving seclusion, Wang Yu traveled to Immortal Ridge, the first beast den captured by Great Xia. He defeated an attacking Second Grade Demon Venerable and three Third Grade Mountain Swallowing Eagles, then fought the Heavenly Thunder Demon Emperor, whom he had last encountered seven hundred years earlier. Wang Yu emerged victorious 340 347 348.

Wang Yu later intervened in Jiang Li’s conflict with Ji Xiangwang and the Ji Family. Rather than immediately permit Jiang Li to attack the family, he weighed its long history of sacrifice for Great Xia against Jiang Li’s value as a rising martial artist. He offered not to stop Jiang Li if Jiang Li completed three tasks first, and ordered Xiao Ci to investigate a suspected collaborator within the Martial Emperor Hall 433 434.

When the Origin Sage overpowered Jiang Li in Rakshasa Country, Wang Yu used a Martial Emperor Ring to reach him and held the Origin Sage at bay. Afterward, he explained the distinction between Second Grade martial-path ascension and First Grade Martial Emperor power 467 468 469.

Personality

Wang Yu’s manner can shift quickly: Li Qingwei is accustomed to his tantrums, and a gift related to Wang Yu’s martial arts game improves his mood. He jokes even after arriving late to a dangerous rescue 340 469.

In affairs of state, he prioritizes Great Xia’s stability over a simple judgment of who is right. He refuses to treat Jiang Li’s grievances as grounds for ignoring the Ji Family’s contributions, but also recognizes Jiang Li’s importance and negotiates with him 434. He does not always agree with Jiang Li’s defiance, yet tolerates criticism of the Hall rather than retaliating for an insult to his authority 447.

First Grade Martial Emperor power comes from making a portion of heaven-and-earth power one’s own, beyond the borrowing of that power available through martial-path ascension. Wang Yu explains this distinction to Jiang Li after the encounter with the Origin Sage 469.
