The interrogation room had been prepared in a hurry. It looked much like one at a police station, with a soundproof wall down the middle and a one-way mirror for observing the questioning.
Tian Zhenggang could tell it had originally been a hospital room. The oxygen pipes on the wall hadn't even been removed.
"As expected of a wealthy family that keeps out of the public eye. You built a soundproof interrogation room in three days." He stood before the mirror and sighed. "Must have cost a fair bit?"
Yue Beifeng glanced at him. "Why three days? Couldn't we have prepared it a month ago, or a year ago?"
"You're joking, Director Yue. The smell of glue is still in the air." Tian Zhenggang ran a finger along the edge of the mirror. "Still sticky. It was clearly applied recently."
"Why not four days?"
Tian Zhenggang paused, then shook his head with a smile. "You really like to be precise, don't you? It was a guess. Our chief said the Northern Heaven Institute called three days ago. Suddenly wanting the suspect transferred to Tianlu District and asking to interrogate him yourselves—it sounded like an idea that came out of nowhere. If the idea was sudden, I figured you wouldn't have prepared the room much earlier."
Yue Beifeng's expression softened slightly. "You guessed right."
"Just lucky."
"And with a detective like you on the force, you still haven't found a single lead in two months?"
"There's not much we can do," Tian Zhenggang said helplessly. "They covered their tracks too well. Even the suspect doesn't know when he was set up. And he's not a local.
