"Good morning, Mr. Carlos." Madam Funair spoke in a voice as clear as silver bells, with just the right amount of warmth and courtesy. "I hope I'm not disturbing you."
Her gaze then fell on the other person in the room, and undisguised admiration and curiosity flashed in her eyes. "And who is this?"
"This is my colleague and friend, Mr. Yu Xing. He's an exceptionally capable investigator, and he happens to be free today. Perhaps he can offer you some help as well." Carlos smiled as he introduced him. In front of outsiders, he always managed to be the very picture of perfection.
Yu Xing rose and inclined his head slightly. "Good morning, Madam Funair."
His gaze swept calmly over her.
"Good morning, Mr. Yu Xing." Madam Funair returned his greeting with an easy smile and a sincere look in her eyes. "I've long heard that the investigators of Ideal Nation are all extraordinary people. Having met you today, I see the rumors were true. Both of you have a truly impressive bearing." Her praise sounded natural, not the least bit affected, and easily inspired goodwill.
After a few pleasantries, they took their seats on the sofa. The maid stood quietly to one side.
Madam Funair accepted the cup of tea Carlos offered her, took a small sip, then set it down elegantly and got to the point. Her smile faded slightly, though she remained perfectly composed. "Mr. Carlos, how is the matter I hired you to investigate coming along?"
Carlos recounted what he had previously told Yu Xing, phrasing it more tactfully and professionally. He mentioned the suspiciously close relationship between Professor Anthony and a female student, as well as their many outings together, but admitted that there was no conclusive evidence yet.
Madam Funair listened in silence.
