The doctor bent down closer, and Yu Xing's gaze instead fell behind him.

Only then did he realize this wasn't a patient room at all. It was a room filled with metal equipment. Various colored medicines stood neatly arranged in a glass cabinet against the wall, while a clutter of laboratory glassware sat in orderly disarray on the table beside it.

Dark red liquid flowed through tubes and bubbled through the glassware.

He was lying on an iron bed covered with a white sheet. It was hard and uncomfortable—certainly not meant for patients to sleep on. In Yu Xing's experience, it was clearly an examination table.

He should have taken in all this information as soon as he woke up, but the moment he opened his eyes, he'd been completely captivated by the doctor and had ignored everything around him.

After looking around, Yu Xing's gaze returned to the doctor.

The doctor was still holding the same pose, wearing that incongruous smile as he stared at Yu Xing without blinking.

It was as if he would keep watching until Yu Xing answered—or perhaps move closer and closer, smiling less and less like a human, until some irreversible disaster occurred.

Yu Xing focused his mind. This time, he was prepared, and his resistance to the doctor's abnormal presence was much stronger. "Of course I care whether you can cure me, Doctor."

Not only had his ability to think returned, but so had his talent for dramatic performance. He shakily pointed to the frostbite on his face, looking as desperate as a critically ill patient. "Doctor, look at me. Am I going to die?"

The doctor straightened slightly and looked down at Yu Xing. He seemed to be in a rather good mood. "...No. Look at you—you're full of life."
