It had taken quite a while just to get airborne. Falling back down wouldn't be over in the blink of an eye, either.

The Snake Woman looked down at him from above, watching him fall with cold indifference, like a hunter waiting for the right moment.

She could certainly keep up with his falling speed. She was probably planning to wait until he was just about to hit the ground, then save him when his fear was at its peak, thereby destroying his resolve.

But being released had been part of Yu Xing's plan, too.

He fell as screens flashed past him on all sides. The recording devices below gradually came into focus. In a moment, he would hit the ground and be "smashed to pieces."

The Snake Woman moved as well.

She plunged downward at astonishing speed, her enormous, translucent body like a miracle, rapidly closing in amid the light cast by the screens.

Centered on him, tentacle-shaped branches spread out like a spiderweb. Some clung wildly to the floor, while others shot straight upward, forming a cage around him.
