The horses' hooves clattered through the dense shadows of the trees.

Everyone in the escort party was human. No matter how fit they were, they still needed food, drink, and rest. When night fell and they could no longer see the road, they had to stop and make camp.

But tonight, with the moon already high overhead, the escorts were exhausted, and the laborers accompanying them were nearly collapsing beside the wagons. Still, the party showed no sign of stopping.

Mainly because the boss hadn't said a word.

Everyone looked ahead. Beneath the moonlight, their head escort rode at the very front, his hair tied in a high ponytail. His upright posture showed no sign of fatigue, and his hair swayed back and forth in an uncanny rhythm with the horse's tail.

He held the reins in his left hand and a riding crop in his right. The crop hung loosely, as if it could snap a stone—or someone's skin—the moment its owner applied the slightest force.

The few men who had been struck by it couldn't help shivering.

But they couldn't go on like this. The escorts exchanged nervous glances in the darkness for a while, until one unlucky fellow finally rode forward and drew alongside Yu Xing.

"Boss..."

Yu Xing was frowning as he studied their surroundings. At the sound, he turned his head and gave a questioning grunt.

"The brothers are all exhausted. When are we going to rest?" the unlucky fellow stammered. "We've already passed several places that looked suitable for making camp."

Yu Xing fell silent for two seconds, then pointed ahead. "Is that spot suitable for a rest?"

The unlucky fellow looked. "It is!"

They hadn't lowered their voices, and the others behind them chimed in one after another. "Oh, it's perfect!"
