Song Mansion wasn't particularly populous. Word had it that the family had moved to Fengtou Town together only a little over ten years ago.
Local gossip had it that Master Song had fallen out with several of his brothers back in their hometown, so he had left with only his wife and daughter. Relying on his capital, he had built a fortune from nothing in Fengtou Town and become a local merchant.
Over the past decade or so, Master Song had taken two concubines, but had no more children. That made Song Xue the only young lady of the Song family.
The relationships in the household were fairly straightforward. The Deduction players didn't need to untangle a complicated web of domestic affairs, and Yu Xing had managed to learn most of what there was to know about the Song family in a short time.
Using the night as cover, he silently climbed the courtyard wall and scrambled up onto the roof of the covered walkway. He crouched low and surveyed the entire courtyard from above.
Song Mansion was only medium-sized by Fengtou Town's standards. It couldn't compare to Zhao Mansion, and its layout was simple enough that he could tell at a glance which rooms belonged to Master Song and his wife, which was the young lady's courtyard, and which were guest rooms.
After leaving the beggar in the alley, he had come straight to Song Mansion. He'd arrived quickly enough to see a few young maids in plain uniforms lighting the courtyard lamps one by one with fire strikers.
A faint blue glow gleamed in Yu Xing's eyes, letting him see the girls' expressions clearly.
Their faces held a numb sort of calm, as if they were accustomed to the strange things that happened at night—or perhaps, in their
