They had now identified four of the ghosts, with only the Knocking Ghost following Gu Mian remaining a complete mystery.
"The Knocking Ghost killed Zhao Wen and Zhou Guanglei..."
"Before he died, Zhao Wen exhibited symptoms of paranoid delusion, suspecting the knocking sounds were man-made. He would lurk around late at night, keeping a close eye on anyone who might knock on his door. After his death, Zhao Wen became a Fierce Ghost, the peeping ghost now following Yuwen Hao."
"The other victim was Zhou Guanglei, also killed by the Knocking Ghost. Before his death, he too showed signs of paranoid delusion, frantically calling and threatening others. After his death, he similarly became a Fierce Ghost, the Phone Ghost who called Huang Yu."
"Zhao Wen, now a Fierce Ghost, went on to kill two people he came into contact with: Li Dongqiang and Wang Erwa."
"Both Li Dongqiang and Wang Erwa had felt like they were being watched before they died, confirming they were killed by Zhao Wen after he became a Fierce Ghost."
"Wang Erwa also became a Fierce Ghost after his death, becoming the back ghost following Qing Huan."
"As for Li Dongqiang, his symptom before death was an urge to squeeze into small spaces. He died under the bed, so he's most likely the one under Lin Yue'er's bed."
The peeping ghost, Zhao Wen.
The under-the-bed ghost, Li Dongqiang.
The back ghost, Wang Erwa.
The phone ghost, Zhou Guanglei.
These four have been fully investigated.
As Gu Mian listened to his coherent analysis, Yuwen Hao still found it hard to believe. "You two finished investigating information on three ghosts in just one day?"
"Because these ghosts are all connected, we followed the leads and investigated them together," Gu Mian replied.
"You guys are moving way too fast..."
Gu Mian continued, "What we need to do is find the source of the curse, so we have to trace it back layer by layer. Based on the relationships between the five ghosts we've found, the Knocking Ghost is at the very top."
It was the Knocking Ghost that killed Zhao Wen and Zhou Guanglei, leading to the subsequent deaths.
But the Knocking Ghost's origins were incredibly mysterious, with no clues whatsoever.
Gu Mian tapped the table. "Zhao Wen and Zhou Guanglei, who were killed by the Knocking Ghost, had one thing in common: they worked at the same place. We might be able to start with that Mingliang Plastic Factory."
Just then, Yuwen Hao spoke up urgently, "Wait... it's getting late today, we need to sort out our accommodation first."
It was already past five in the afternoon, and it wouldn't be long before it got dark.
This was, after all, a very supernatural dungeon, and the players were naturally reluctant to act at night.
Yuwen Hao continued, "We definitely can't go back to our own places. It's best if we stick together tonight. I see a few hotels nearby, how about we rent a room first?"
"Whatever you say," Gu Mian replied indifferently.
Qing Huan looked at Lin Yue'er. "But Lin Yue'er, is that convenient for you?"
After all, she was the only girl, and being surrounded by four men wasn't ideal.
Lin Yue'er nodded. "At a time like this, I won't worry about that. Survival is the priority."
That settled it.
Yuwen Hao quickly found a hotel and rented a place. The hotel owner gave them an extra glance when he saw their unusual group of four men and one woman.
Since five people needed to stay, they rented a large room, a family suite with two bedrooms and a living room.
Afraid to sleep in separate rooms, they all chose to sleep on the floor in the large living room. Gu Mian, however, resolutely chose to sleep in the bedroom.
"Doctor Gu," Qing Huan hesitated at the bedroom door, looking in. "You shouldn't sleep alone in the bedroom."
In horror movies, the ones who died first were always the ones who were alone.
Gu Mian, however, didn't seem too concerned. He leaned his chainsaw against the headboard. "It's fine, I'll leave the door open, you'll be able to see me at a glance."
Yuwen Hao was still in the living room planning their rest for the night.
Since all four of them hadn't slept well last night and were now suffering from splitting headaches, they had to sleep tonight, but they couldn't sleep too soundly.
"Let's take turns keeping watch. Lin Yue'er is a girl, so she's excused. The three of us will take turns staying awake. If anything seems wrong, we'll immediately wake the others."
Yuwen Hao naturally excluded Gu Mian, who was sleeping in the bedroom.
"It's almost 7:30 now. I know you're all very tired and could fall asleep instantly."
"How about this: I'll take the first watch. I'll watch from 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM, four hours."
"Then, when my time is up, I'll wake Huang Yu. Huang Yu, you'll watch from 11:30 PM to 3:30 AM, also four hours."
"Finally, Qing Huan, you'll watch from 3:30 AM to 7:30 AM, four hours. This way, each of us can get at least eight hours of sleep."
"We'll investigate the plastic factory matter tomorrow morning after we wake up."
The others had no objections.
When Lin Yue'er went to sleep, she specifically chose a spot farthest from the bedroom. She was afraid of the bed in the bedroom.
The lights overhead were, of course, still on. Although sleeping with the lights on would affect sleep quality, no one cared about that now—except Gu Mian.
Yuwen Hao sat on the sofa in the living room, alert.
He occasionally glanced around to see if there was anything unusual, and then turned his head to look at Gu Mian in the bedroom.
As Yuwen Hao observed his surroundings, he suddenly noticed Gu Mian on the bed in the bedroom move.
The doctor in the white coat suddenly climbed out of bed, walked straight to the bedroom light switch, and flicked it off without hesitation.
The bedroom was plunged into darkness. Gu Mian, satisfied, crawled back onto the bed and went back to sleep.
Yuwen Hao, however, watched the pitch-black bedroom with goosebumps: "He actually dares to turn off the lights and sleep."
What was going on with this player? Speaking of which, the name Gu Mian sounded a bit familiar...
Gu Mian had excellent sleep quality; he could fall asleep the moment his eyes closed, and nothing could wake him.
Once, in the middle of the night, a fierce storm raged. A bolt of lightning struck and even dislodged a brick from the wall in front of his window, but Gu Mian didn't hear a thing and slept soundly.
So, it wasn't long before he fell asleep.
He didn't know how long he slept before he was suddenly woken by a rustling sound.
Even thunder couldn't wake him from his deep sleep, which showed how loud this rustling was.
When Gu Mian opened his eyes, it was still the middle of the night. The sky was dark, with the moon hanging high above.
The rustling sound was almost right behind his head. Gu Mian was stunned for a moment before realizing the sound was coming from under the bed.
He rolled over and came face-to-face with several terrified expressions.
The living room lights were still on, clearly indicating that the people outside had already noticed something was wrong. They were now sitting on their blankets, staring wide-eyed at under his bed.
They didn't dare to make a sound, covering their mouths tightly as they stared under the bed. Seeing Gu Mian wake up, they desperately shook their heads at him, signaling him not to make any noise.
Yuwen Hao even mouthed the words, "Don't move."
Gu Mian was a bit confused.
Immediately after, the rustling grew louder and closer to the edge of the bed, as if whatever was underneath was about to crawl out.
The people outside the door looked even more terrified, scrambling backward on their hands and feet.
Gu Mian on the bed moved then.
Under everyone's watchful eyes, he gripped the edge of the bed and suddenly stuck his head down to look under it: "What the heck is that?"
