The Terror Was Unimaginable

Just as the laughter abruptly stopped, Yuwen Hao finally remembered where he had seen the name Gu Mian before.

He widened his eyes and stared at the doctor in front of him. "You..."

But before he could finish, Gu Mian raised a foot and kicked the door with all his might.

The tremendous bang echoed through the dim corridor. At that moment, the call suddenly disconnected—and it certainly wasn't Gu Mian who hung up.

Qing Huan and Huang Yu were still huddled against the wall, stunned and unable to make sense of what had happened.

Why had the person on the other end gone silent and hung up just because Doctor Gu had said something?

Why could Doctor Gu smash down the door so brazenly?

The apartment was already in terrible shape, and naturally, so was the front door.

Gu Mian was strong. He kicked it hard twice more, and the door flew open.

The first thing they saw was a small living room. The lights were off, leaving everything shrouded in darkness and blurred into indistinct shadows.

Gu Mian stepped inside and casually flicked on the light switch by the door. The room immediately brightened.

The other three followed behind him, trembling.

It was a one-person apartment, the kind with a living room and a single bedroom. They could all see the only bedroom at a glance, but its door was tightly shut, concealing everything inside.

Gu Mian quickly went over and tried the door. It wouldn't budge. He knocked, but there was no answer.

He stood at the door and called out, "Lin Yue'er?"

There was still not a sound from inside.

That left only one option: force the door open. As he thought this, Gu Mian tried pushing it again. This door was far sturdier than the front one. It felt as if something was blocking it from the other side, and it wouldn't be easy to kick open.

The others could tell how solid it was, too.

Yuwen Hao shuddered and said, "Let's all try ramming it together..."

Qing Huan and Huang Yu nodded silently.

They had come all this way, so they couldn't leave empty-handed. Though there might be something terrifying behind the door, for some reason, knowing Doctor Gu was here made them feel a little more at ease.

The three lined up and charged the bedroom door together.

It shook with a tremendous crash, but didn't budge.

They rammed it several more times, but it was still no use.

Qing Huan's shoulder hurt from the impact, and he was running out of strength, but the door remained firmly shut.

"What do we do?" he asked anxiously, looking at Yuwen Hao.

Yuwen Hao had no idea, either. He was running around like a headless fly.

But just then, he heard a zipper being pulled open behind him. Gu Mian was standing there.

Yuwen Hao spun around and saw a sight that left him dumbfounded.

The doctor in the white coat had taken the guitar off his back and was unzipping its case. The zipper was halfway open, revealing the corner of a guitar.

"A guitar?" No—not quite.

Yuwen Hao watched as Gu Mian pulled an enormous, hideous chainsaw out of the guitar case. His mouth fell open. He even forgot how to speak. "What the hell, that's a guitar?"

Wasn't he supposed to be a doctor who loved music?

Wasn't he carrying a guitar?

How had the guitar turned into a chainsaw in the blink of an eye?

Qing Huan backed away, pale-faced, until his back was pressed against the door. "Clearly, it isn't..."

Gu Mian lifted the chainsaw, which weighed well over ten pounds, with ease and walked over to them. "Move aside, guys."

The three people by the door scattered, though they didn't dare go far. They swallowed nervously as Gu Mian started the chainsaw.

The chainsaw roared loudly, like a motorcycle engine. Its sound was especially pleasing in the night.

Gu Mian aimed at the lock and cut straight through it. Faced with the menacing chainsaw, the lock gave way like tofu. The three watching nearby were terrified.

The door swung open with a bang.

The room was just as dark, with no lights on. Gu Mian turned off the chainsaw and switched on the light.

The three people nearby came closer, but didn't dare get too close to the chainsaw in Gu Mian's hand. They all kept their distance.

Now they could see the entire room clearly.

There was a bed, a wardrobe, and a bedside table. A phone lay on the floor beside the bed, apparently fallen from the table.

There was nothing else.

Yuwen Hao stared into the room in surprise. "Lin Yue'er isn't here?"

Qing Huan was looking at the phone on the floor. "That's what the ghost used to call us... Has it left now?"

At his words, the other two shuddered.

If the ghost hadn't left, wouldn't that mean they were sharing a room with one right now?

Gu Mian didn't seem particularly concerned about whether there was a ghost. He stepped inside and approached the phone on the floor. "Let's find Lin Yue'er first."

Yuwen Hao spoke with a tremble in his voice. "But where are we supposed to look?"

He didn't have much money, so he'd only bought two phones: one for Gu Mian and one for himself.

They had no way to contact Lin Yue'er. The friends list couldn't be used inside the instance, so finding someone in there was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Qing Huan spoke up, his face pale. "If Lin Yue'er isn't here, where could she be? Where could the ghost have taken her?"

"No." Gu Mian suddenly shook his head. "Lin Yue'er might still be here."

The other three froze, apparently not understanding what he meant at first. Then it dawned on them.

"You mean... Lin Yue'er could be in here..." Yuwen Hao shuddered as he spoke.

The ghost following Lin Yue'er was the Under-the-bed Ghost. They could naturally guess something about how it killed.

At the thought, all three swallowed hard and stared at the gap beneath the bed.

Was Lin Yue'er in there?

The gap beneath the bed was only seven or eight centimeters high. It would be nearly impossible to squeeze someone inside. If she really had been forced in there, she'd certainly be dead—and her death would have been horrific.

"I'm going to lift the bed. Those of you who scare easily should close your eyes," Gu Mian helpfully warned them.

The three of them closed their eyes in perfect unison.
