Background / History

Old Man Yao was obtained by Dai Yu as a bound remnant soul residing within an ancient black Storage Ring. Initially silent and unresponsive, he remained inside the ring while Dai Yu speculated that he was either adapting to the new world or observing him. 2

He later revealed that he had awakened when Dai Yu entered Shrek Academy. Because his soul originated from another world with incompatible rules, he could not communicate while he forcibly altered his fundamental soul imprint to survive under Douluo Continent's laws. The adaptation nearly exhausted his soul power and left him close to dissipation. 25 26

Upon fully awakening, Old Man Yao absorbed five of the ten origin orbs left by the Million-Year Sacred Beast White Tiger's sacrifice. The energy stabilized his remnant soul, though Dai Yu lost half of his stored White Tiger origin in the process. 25 26

After Dai Yu accepted the necessity of the absorption, Old Man Yao agreed to act as his guide. He first taught Dai Yu the Indestructible Geng Metal Body, then offered the evolving fire cultivation method Blazing Art after learning of Dai Yu's Extreme Fire seed. 26 27

During the New Student Assessment, he advised Dai Yu in using the Blazing Art to devour Ma Xiaotao's impure Evil Fire. He later agreed to teach Dai Yu alchemy after receiving a Soul Soothing Pill. 45 50 51

Old Man Yao manifests as an elderly, translucent figure within Dai Yu's Sea of Consciousness. His unstable remnant-soul condition leaves his body faint and liable to disperse.

He is also pragmatic about cultivation. Before allowing Dai Yu to cultivate the Blazing Art, he clearly explained that the technique could be inferior to ordinary methods in a world without Heavenly Flames, framing the decision as a serious gamble rather than hiding its risks. 28
