Under the city walls lay nearly a hundred rotting corpses, their black blood flowing and staining the ground a bizarre dark red.
[First wave repelled]
[Enemy Morale -30]
[Next wave will arrive in one hour]
A golden prompt box popped up.
"We won!" some clones cheered.
"Don't celebrate too early!" Lin Mo shouted. "Tally casualties, resupply ammunition, and repair defenses!"
Their own losses were minimal.
Only three militiamen were hit by arrows during the enemy's sporadic counterattack, and their injuries were not serious.
None of the clones were injured.
"How much poison blood is left?" Lin Mo asked.
"We used about a third of the poison blood from the bamboo tubes," First Clone reported. "We still have half our supply of poison pots. But..."
He pointed to the rotting corpses under the city walls. "Can the blood from those corpses be recycled too?"
Lin Mo's eyes lit up.
Right!
If the clones' poison blood was toxic, then the blood in the enemy corpses, who had died from poison, should also be toxic!
Even if the toxicity was reduced, it was better than nothing.
"Send ten clones down to collect the black blood flowing from the corpses with containers!" Lin Mo immediately ordered.
Then, ten clones, carrying wooden buckets, nimbly climbed down the city walls and began to "collect" poison blood from the corpses.
"This guy has so much blood, I got half a bucket!"
"Use it sparingly, there's more over there!"
"I suggest we name this tactic 'Sustainable Poison Blood Recycling'."
"You're a damn genius."
The clones bantered while working, and the atmosphere was surprisingly relaxed.
Lin Mo watched this scene, his mouth twitching.
As expected, after his personality split into over thirty parts, even his sense of humor had grown exponentially.
An hour passed quickly.
[Second enemy wave will arrive in a quarter of an hour]
[Enemy numbers: 150]
[Troop types: Infantry (120) + Archers (30)]
"We have ranged units now," Lin Mo frowned. "Archers are troublesome."
Leather armor offered limited protection against arrows. If they were suppressed by arrows, the spraying of poison blood guns would be affected.
"We need shields," First Clone suggested. "There are some wooden shields in the warehouse. They're battered, but they should be enough to block arrows."
"Distribute them immediately!" Lin Mo ordered. "Every clone gets a shield, and so do the militiamen!"
Soon, everyone received a crude wooden shield.
Some shields were even cracked and held together with ropes, but it was better than nothing.
On the horizon, the figures of the second enemy wave had already appeared.
This time, their formation was completely different from before.
Thirty archers were positioned at the front, followed by a hundred and twenty infantrymen wielding weapons, advancing with murderous intent.
"The archers will suppress us first," Lin Mo quickly analyzed. "Once we're suppressed, the infantry will charge."
As soon as he finished speaking, the enemy advanced to about eighty meters away. The thirty archers formed three ranks ten meters in front of the infantry and began drawing their bows.
"Trebuchets, target the archer position," Lin Mo roared. "Fire!"
Five trebuchets moved in unison, their mechanisms emitting dull sounds.
The next second, poison pots streaked across the sky, landing precisely among the archer ranks!
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Sharp cracks sounded one after another, and dark green poison blood splattered. Those hit immediately let out shrill screams.
In an instant, the archer formation descended into chaos. Some dropped their bows in panic, reaching to wipe the poison blood from their faces, only to have their hands begin to fester at a visible rate upon contact with the toxin.
Some, terrified, stumbled backward, knocking over their companions behind them, their ranks completely broken.
After one volley, more than half of the thirty archers were casualties.
"Infantry charge!" the enemy commander's enraged voice boomed.
One hundred and twenty infantry soldiers charged forward with a roar.
But without the suppression fire of archers, they were met by defenders who had long been ready and waiting, fresh and eager.
"Clay pots in position—throw!"
Rows of poison blood clay pots sliced through the sky, smashing fiercely into the charging crowd.
"Poison blood guns aim—spray!"
Dark green poison blood poured down like a torrential rain, instantly covering the entire area of the city wall.
The direction of this battle was almost a replica of the first wave.
The only difference was that this time, the enemy not only had more numbers but were also well-armored and finely equipped, clearly elite troops.
Their charge was even more ferocious, their steps steady, their formation tight, carrying a desperate and ruthless resolve of fighting to the death.
Moreover, more than a dozen infantry soldiers, fearless of death, actually charged to the foot of the city wall and climbed upwards using the damaged sections of the wall with hands and feet.
"Melee engage!"
Several clones roared sternly and immediately pounced, their weapons, quenched with concentrated poison blood, glinting coldly.
The moment their blades sliced through leather armor, dark green venom seeped into flesh and blood along the wounds.
The enemy soldiers who climbed the city wall fell one after another before they could even scream.
This brutal tug-of-war lasted for a full quarter of an hour.
When the last enemy soldier fell, the outpost wall was already damaged in multiple places, three militiamen dead, and seven wounded.
Two of the clones were also lightly injured—both were cut by blades in close combat, but thanks to their poison blood constitution, the wounds quickly stopped bleeding and healed on their own.
