Zhuge Ming stood on the steps, waving a palm-leaf fan as his gaze swept across the somewhat dilapidated office.
Most of the paint on the lintel had peeled away. The bronze studs on the double doors were mottled with rust, and one of the Stone Lions at the entrance was missing an ear.
The courtyard was overgrown with weeds, while broken tables, chairs, and benches were piled up in the corners.
"This County Office is even more run-down than I imagined." He shook his head and turned to Lin Wu beside him.
"General Lin Wu, take some men and clean up the courtyard. Repair what needs repairing and throw out what needs throwing out."
Lin Wu cupped his fist. "Understood."
Zhuge Ming then looked at the black-armored soldiers behind him.
"Send four hundred men to take over the defenses at the west gate. Post sentries on the walls and inspect everyone at the city gates. Register all idlers and suspicious persons."
"Yes!"
"Send another hundred men to patrol the streets. Maintain order, but do not disturb the people. Lord has only just taken over the county city; his reputation is important."
"Understood!"
Lin Wu turned and began assigning tasks.
Standing on the steps, Zhuge Ming watched the black-armored soldiers file out and disappear into the streets and alleys, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly.
This county city would belong to their territory from now on.
"Mr. Zhuge!"
A black-armored soldier hurried over and cupped his fist in salute.
"Another group has arrived outside the city. They say they are officials sent by the imperial court to handle the handover, and they wish to see you."
Zhuge Ming raised an eyebrow. "Officials sent by the imperial court to receive the handover?"
After a moment's
