The dormitory was quiet in the early morning, with only the faint sound of birdsong filtering in from outside the window.
Wang Hao was still buried under his covers, fast asleep. The flush on his face had completely faded, and his breathing was long and steady. It seemed his high fever had finally broken.
The beds belonging to Zhang Wei and Li Feng were still empty. Without even guessing, one could tell those two were probably at an internet cafe, battling it out all night.
Lin Mo rolled out of bed. As his feet touched the ground, the feeling of his body being "too light" was even more pronounced than yesterday.
Level five Attributes, this was already equivalent to three times the physical stats of a normal adult male.
He did dozens of squats, his movements fluid and effortless.
He could feel surging power coursing through his limbs and bones, every inch of his muscles containing explosive strength, ready to detonate at any moment.
"Gurgle gurgle--"
Hunger arrived as expected.
It was more intense than yesterday, his stomach felt like a hand was clawing at it, desperately needing food to fill it.
While washing up, he deliberately adjusted his posture in front of the mirror.
The changes brought by level five Attributes were too obvious. His muscle definition, the sharpness of his eyes, even his demeanor were different from usual.
He deliberately relaxed his shoulders and let his gaze return to its usual languid state, making him look like an ordinary college student.
"Restrain, I need to restrain," he muttered to himself.
After changing his clothes and slinging on the black backpack containing emergency supplies, Lin Mo headed out to the cafeteria.
The campus was still bustling in the morning.
Students walked in twos and threes, chatting as they headed to class, with the occasional couple strolling hand-in-hand.
The sun was bright, and the plane tree leaves rustled in the wind.
On the surface, everything seemed normal.
But Lin Mo keenly noticed some details:
There were more security guards patrolling the campus than usual, and several unfamiliar black business cars were parked in front of the administrative building.
A new "Safety Notice" was posted on the distant bulletin board, reminding students to "maintain a regular schedule and avoid going out at night."
Undercurrents were stirring beneath the calm surface, but most people hadn't noticed yet.
The cafeteria was noisy.
Lin Mo ordered four meat buns, two fried dough sticks, a bowl of congee, and a cup of soy milk.
Just as he found a seat, someone slapped him on the shoulder.
"Lin Mo! Morning!"
Zhou Ming, holding his tray, sat down opposite him with a clatter.
His face was alight with unconcealed excitement; the guy always seemed to have boundless energy.
"Morning." Lin Mo took a large bite of a meat bun, his cheeks bulging, and replied indistinctly.
"Did you hear about what happened last night in the west of the city?"
Zhou Ming leaned forward, deliberately lowering his voice, a strange excitement in his eyes:
"That 'Night Flame' bar, something big happened there at nine last night!"
Lin Mo paused while grabbing pickled vegetables, "What happened?"
"One against seventeen!" Zhou Ming's voice trembled, "There was a video online, and although it was deleted very quickly, I was fast enough to save it!"
He eagerly reached for his phone, but Lin Mo quickly waved him off, "Eat first, we can watch it later."
"Yeah, the footage looked pretty bloody," Zhou Ming sheepishly put his phone away and took a huge bite of a fried dough stick, shaking his head as he chewed.
"But isn't it weird? One person taking down seventeen, and winning so easily... could that be a normal person?"
"Maybe they trained," Lin Mo replied perfunctorily.
"Trained?" Zhou Ming scoffed, "My cousin is on the provincial Sanda team. He says even a world champion would struggle to take on three armed opponents, let alone seventeen... and be completely unharmed? That's beyond 'training'."
He lowered his voice, speaking mysteriously, "I'm telling you, people online are saying it's about 'Awakened'.
Just like in the novels, some people suddenly gain superpowers.
Those people who fainted and woke up with improved bodies in the news before, maybe they were all like that!"
"Read fewer online novels," Lin Mo drank some soy milk.
"It's not a novel!" Zhou Ming insisted, "You really should see those videos! And the discussions on Tieba and Weibo...
Even though a lot of it was deleted, the fragments that are still circulating, that's not something a human can do!"
He said this as he pulled out his phone, quickly opened a video, and shoved the screen in front of Lin Mo's eyes.
The image was blurry, clearly a clandestine phone recording.
In the dim bar lights, a man in a black jacket was surrounded by over a dozen people, bottles and pipes glinting in their hands.
The next second, the man moved.
Fast!
So fast the camera could barely capture his movements!
He was a black blur darting and flashing through the crowd. The people surrounding him fell like wheat stalks being cut, one after another collapsing with screams.
Someone tried to swing a knife, but before the blade could fall, their wrist was twisted into a pretzel;
Someone attempted a sneak attack from behind, only to be kicked flying by him, smashing hard into a glass liquor cabinet two meters away. Alcohol and glass shards splashed everywhere.
The entire process took less than twenty seconds.
Seventeen people, all down.
The video cut off there.
"See?" Zhou Ming put away his phone, his voice trembling. "Is that speed even humanly possible? I bet my life, he's definitely an 'Awakened'!"
Lin Mo didn't speak, silently picking at the congee in his bowl.
The movements of the man in the video were all too familiar to him. It was a naked display of superior Attributes.
