In the dimness, time seemed to lose all meaning.
Lin Mo was woken by a series of rough knocks on the door.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Lin Mo! Open up! Why are you locking the door in broad daylight!"
"Holy crap, what the hell are they doing in there?"
"Hurry up! I gotta pee and I can't hold it much longer!"
It was Zhang Wei, Li Feng, and Wang Hao's voices, mixed with their boisterous laughter.
Lin Mo opened his eyes. The dorm room was dim, with only a few slivers of twilight filtering through the gaps in the curtains.
Su Wanqing, who was in his arms, suddenly stirred. Her long, slender eyelashes fluttered, and she groggily lifted her head.
A few messy strands of hair clung to her sweat-dampened cheeks. Her voice was soft and husky from just waking up: "...What's wrong?"
"My roommates are back." Lin Mo leaned in and whispered into her ear, his voice kept very low. He gently patted her back with his palm. "Get up, put your clothes on."
Whoosh! Su Wanqing instantly sobered up. Her almond-shaped eyes snapped open wide, and her cheeks flushed a burning red.
She scrambled out of Lin Mo's embrace, nearly rolling off the bed in her haste.
As she sat up, propping herself up with her arms, a dull ache from somewhere on her body instantly brought back memories of their intimate moments.
"I... My clothes..." She was so embarrassed her earlobes turned scarlet. She jumped off the bed in a fluster, her bare feet landing on the cool floor.
Her gaze darted frantically around the messy bed and the floor, her hands fumbling to pick up the scattered clothing.
Lin Mo, on the other hand, was calm. He slowly sat up, his fingertips brushing against the T-shirt draped over the edge of the bed, which he put on at a leisurely pace.
He then bent down to pick up the pants from the floor, his movements unhurried.
The knocking grew more insistent.
"Lin Mo! I know you're in there! Open the door, now!"
"What if he died suddenly?"
"Should we just kick the door down?"
Su Wanqing finally found her underwear and jeans. She turned her back to Lin Mo and hastily put them on.
In the dim light, her smooth back and slender waist were clearly visible, their curves casting shadows in the gloom.
"Don't rush." Lin Mo walked over and helped her fasten her bra clasp, his fingers lightly tracing her back.
Su Wanqing's body trembled. She turned her head and shot him a blushing glare. "It's all your fault..."
"My fault for what?" Lin Mo raised an eyebrow. "Who was it that said she wanted to repay me just now?"
"You..." Su Wanqing was speechless. She quickly pulled on her T-shirt and hoodie, then tidied her hair. "What do we do now?"
Lin Mo walked to the door and placed his hand on the doorknob. He turned back and smiled at her. "Be mentally prepared."
With that, he turned the handle and opened the door.
The three outside were about to bang on the door again when it suddenly opened, nearly causing them to stumble inside.
"Holy—!" Zhang Wei steadied himself and was about to speak when his gaze passed over Lin Mo and landed on Su Wanqing standing in the dorm room.
Time seemed to freeze.
Li Feng and Wang Hao saw her too.
Su Wanqing, the belle of the art department, the subject of countless late-night discussions and secret fantasies among male students.
She was standing in the dorm room, her hair disheveled, clothes askew, cheeks flushed, lips swollen, and eyes darting away.
The hoodie she wore was noticeably wrinkled, the collar crooked, revealing half of her collarbone and the strap of her black bra.
Although she had put on her jeans, the button at the waist wasn't fully fastened, revealing a sliver of her fair midriff.
Most damningly, she was standing barefoot on the floor, her white sneakers lying askew by the bed.
The air was dead silent.
Zhang Wei's mouth hung open in an 'O' shape, but deep within his eyes, beneath the shock, a sourness quickly surged, only to be forcefully suppressed. Why him?
Li Feng's keys clattered to the floor. His gaze was like a magnet, sweeping back and forth between Su Wanqing and Lin Mo.
His mind buzzed with a cacophony of "impossible" and "why him."
A sickly flush spread across Wang Hao's pale face, which had just recovered from a fever.
He had always felt that a goddess like Su Wanqing was worlds away from ordinary guys like them.
But this scene now laid bare a cruel disparity before him in stark, bloody detail.
The worst part was, the one who was ahead was none other than his roommate, whom he saw every day.
The three pairs of eyes darted between Su Wanqing and Lin Mo, countless images flashing through their minds, each frame enough to break the hearts of every male student on campus.
"You... You guys..." Zhang Wei stammered, his finger trembling as he pointed at the two of them. "Lin Mo, you bastard..."
Su Wanqing's face was flushed as if she were about to bleed. She lowered her head and quickly walked to the bedside, bending down to put on her shoes.
The movement caused the hem of her t-shirt to ride up, revealing a strip of fair skin on her lower back, her curves accentuated by the tight jeans.
Li Feng subconsciously swallowed, his heart a jumble of emotions – envy, jealousy.
And a trace of an indescribable sense of defeat, all mixed together.
"Sorry to bother you." Su Wanqing put on her shoes, her voice as faint as a mosquito's hum. She didn't dare to look up, quickly squeezing past the three of them and rushing out of the dorm as if fleeing.
The dada da of her footsteps quickly faded down the hallway.
Inside the dorm, a deathly silence fell.
Zhang Wei, Li Feng, and Wang Hao stiffly turned their heads, their gazes uniformly focused on Lin Mo.
Their eyes held a mixture of shock, jealousy, admiration, disbelief, and a complex fervor, like witnessing a miracle firsthand yet feeling unwilling to accept it.
