Background / History

Xiao Zhan leads the Xiao Family from its residence in central Dongli City. Before Xiao Huohuo's return, he spends a month waiting at the family gate for his son, who has been missing for over two months. His concern is visible in his white-streaked temples and his immediate inspection for injuries when Huohuo returns. 14

Huohuo introduces Chu Feng as his master, but Xiao Zhan initially considers the plainly dressed youth another fraud exploiting his son's long-standing search for reclusive experts. He and the elders challenge Chu Feng's identity, cultivation, and claims of superiority to the Xiantian realm. 14 15

Chu Feng's display of tens of thousands of flying swords overturns Xiao Zhan's judgment. Believing he has offended a Grandmaster, Xiao Zhan and the elders beg forgiveness; Xiao Zhan later offers a sincere second apology, explaining that Huohuo had been deceived by false masters in the past. 17 18

Xiao Zhan is a sturdy middle-aged man with a square, authoritative face, sharp eyes, and a muscular build beneath black clothing. Though he appears to be in his late forties, his temples are already streaked with white from years of worry over Xiao Huohuo. 14

Personality

Xiao Zhan is deeply protective of Xiao Huohuo. He repeatedly indulges his son's searches for “hermit experts,” despite the family viewing Huohuo as a disappointment, and his first concern upon Huohuo's return is whether he has been injured. 14 18

As clan leader, he is cautious and status-conscious. His suspicion of Chu Feng comes from Huohuo's history of being deceived and from Chu Feng's lack of an apparent martial aura. Once confronted with undeniable strength, however, he promptly apologizes, reassesses the situation, and works to build a respectful relationship with Chu Feng. 15 17 18
