"The base was attacked?"
After receiving the report from an ANBU ninja, Shimura Danzō was a little stunned. Then anger welled up inside him.
"What has Hiruzen been doing?"
He had been working tirelessly on the Frontline, only for his own base to be taken. He even suspected that his old friend had arranged it.
After all, the Root Base was something he had painstakingly built up over many years. It was protected by countless barriers and traps. Even a Kage-level Expert wouldn't be able to charge through it quickly, let alone ransack the place.
Anyone who could get inside so quickly had to be familiar with the base and know its layout, as well as how to undo its barriers.
There weren't many outsiders who knew those things. As far as he knew, only Orochimaru and Kō, who had betrayed him and joined Hiruzen's side, had that knowledge.
Orochimaru was unlikely to come. There was nothing in the base that would interest him, and no reason for him to launch such a raid. That meant Hiruzen had to be responsible.
At the thought, Shimura Danzō's expression darkened, and murderous intent stirred within him.
In the end, though, he managed to suppress it. Konoha couldn't afford any upheaval right now. If the Four Great Shinobi Villages saw an opportunity, they would surely seize it and attack.
Kirigakure in particular had been sending ninjas to investigate for some time, clearly looking for a chance to start another war.
They still hadn't given up!
"I'll consider this repayment for what you did."
Shimura Danzō muttered darkly and decided to let it go.
When his old friend had proposed returning to the position of Hokage, Danzō had sent people to assassinate him. He would consider this repayment.
