After eating and drinking his fill, the Third Raikage took several people and headed straight south, leaving the Land of Fire. They went out to sea by ship and took a detour back to the Land of Lightning.
The sea had originally been Kirigakure's territory, but Kirigakure was currently embroiled in internal strife and had no time to concern itself with the outside world. Traveling by sea was therefore much safer.
Meanwhile, the two Hyuga brothers safely returned to the Hyuga Clan. Hyuga Hiashi even used the Transformation Jutsu to assume a state in which his eyes were intact, then had his younger brother escort him back without anyone noticing anything unusual.
The loss of the Byakugan was a serious problem. It would not only affect the clan; the village would suffer losses as well.
If the Byakugan truly caused the village to suffer losses in the war, they would face tremendous pressure.

At the Hyuga Clan Compound, the Hyuga Clan Head, Munemasa Hyuga, looked at the bandaged area around his eldest son's eyes. He was so furious he nearly coughed up blood, and he gnashed his teeth in hatred.
"We were targeted by the Cloud shinobi. Someone must have leaked information about our movements."
Hyuga Hiashi was equally furious. The core of the Hyuga Clan was the Byakugan, and now that he had lost it, he was practically crippled.
Not to mention that he was a member of the Main Family and the heir apparent. Losing the Byakugan was an even more serious problem for him.
"I'll have someone investigate this."
Munemasa Hyuga thought so as well. The Third Raikage's target had been too clear—he had dug out his son's eyes the moment he attacked.
