Regarding Updates—To the Readers Who Have Always Supported This Book
I hope everyone who has supported this book all along will take a moment to read what comes next.
This morning, a chapter was blocked, so I asked my editor to help get it unblocked. That simple question immediately brought my situation to my editor's attention.
Although I've written a book before, that was ten years ago. This book came about in a rather bizarre way: I wrote 8,000 words to argue against my friend's claim that AI could write books, then, on a whim, submitted it to Qidian's inbox too. To my surprise, it was approved...
By age, or by how long I've been on Qidian, I'm still a complete beginner. This is my first time, so I ended up in the situation I'm in now.
The book was created 24 days ago, and I've updated it with 194,000 words. Since I didn't know any better, I just charged ahead.
The problem now is that my book is still in its new-book period, but I've missed out on every benefit and recommendation available during that period because they all have word-count limits, and I exceeded every one.
Why did my book disappear from the new-book listings after just two days? Why did other people get their first-round recommendation at 70,000 words, while mine started at 120,000? I only understood many of these issues today.
Even worse, this could set off a vicious cycle that kills the book outright.
I went to my editor, hoping they could give me a hand. They're just as troubled by this—who goes and makes such a mess, blasting out updates like this during the new-book period? They're willing to give it a try, but I can only do as they ask.
I usually update
