Background / History

Garp found Morito on a deserted island nine years before the Naval Academy qualifying exam. Morito joined the Marines out of gratitude to Garp rather than loyalty to Marine Headquarters, where he feels little belonging. Gion, who knew him through Garp and Tsuru, protected him from childhood and treated him like a younger brother. 3 13

For years, Morito forfeited the Training Camp examinations and trained alone, leaving Zephyr with a poor first impression of him. He entered the qualifying exam only when he decided he needed the Naval Academy's resources and focused training to grow stronger. 6 12

Morito overturned the academy's perception of him by placing first in the written examination, earning perfect physical-test ratings, scoring 999 in Doriki, and defeating Onigumo in the practical combat test. Zephyr subsequently accepted him into the Elite Class. 8 9 11 16 20

After serving as a Reserve Navy officer, Morito accumulated military merit while seeking the rank and freedom to lead independently. His Tenseigan evolution and later conflict with the World Government led to imprisonment in Impel Down, escape, and open hostility with the Marines and CP0. 60 89 95 165

He eventually became known as the Dragon Slayer and a Four Emperor, commanding the Dragon Slayer Pirate Crew. 351 410

Appearance

Morito is a notably youthful, fair-skinned young man with a lean but well-proportioned physique and restrained musculature developed through Gentle Fist training. His appearance is often considered unusually attractive for a Marine cadet. 6 9

  • White, gray-covered pupils during his Byakugan state, which can make him appear blind. 157
  • Deep-blue eyes after the Tenseigan's evolution. 157
  • Fair, smooth skin; Zephyr remarks that his hands are unusually soft and tender. 19
  • Retains visible youthfulness even when his reputation as the Dragon Slayer has spread. 69 155

Personality

Morito is calm, calculating, and highly pragmatic. He avoids revealing abilities or claiming credit when doing so would create unnecessary danger, and he evaluates conflicts through strength, information, and long-term advantage. 26 31 418

He is generally polite toward people who treat him with respect: “If people respect me one foot, I will respect them ten feet.” However, he is unforgiving toward provocation, betrayal, or threats to people he recognizes as his own. 24 13 16

Morito pursues power to live freely and without restraint, distinguishing his goal from Doflamingo's pursuit of destruction. He respects powerful opponents and considers insulting them beneath him, but refuses political subordination, including Imu's offer to make him CP0 Chief. 61 110 179 418

Abilities & Skills

Tenseigan

Morito's evolved dōjutsu is the foundation of his most powerful techniques. It enhances the Byakugan's perception while granting repulsion, attraction, gravity, spatial, energy, and Truth-Seeking Orb abilities. 60 61 349

  • Provides a 360-degree field of vision with no blind spots. 251
  • Sees through blockades, disguises, energy bodies, and hidden attacks. 159 253 351
  • Its telescopic vision can cover an entire island, setting the initial range for safe spatial jumps. 89
  • Releases overwhelming pressure capable of incapacitating thousands of opponents. 252

Repulsion, Attraction, and Gravity Techniques

Morito channels Tenseigan Chakra into large-scale force manipulation.

  • Almighty Push — blasts enemies away with repulsive force; used against Jotte, Tyler, and the CP0 Vice Commander. 52 68 163
  • Chibaku Tensei — creates a giant stone sphere that buries tens of thousands of pirates; the technique also destroys the surrounding town. 69
  • Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion — a high-output Tenseigan technique capable of defeating Sengoku in Great Buddha form; later used against Imu and Kizaru. 159 416 464
  • Localized repulsion — concentrates force into close-range strikes, such as the punch that sent Tyler flying and created a crater. 68

Spatial Manipulation

Morito can open spatial tunnels and make short- or long-range jumps after identifying viable coordinates.

  • Teleports within his field of vision using spatial tunnels. 89
  • Uses long-range teleportation to evade CP0, the Navy, and the Army. 165
  • Creates Black Hole passages with no stated distance limit once coordinates are known. 426
  • Transfers incoming damage through spatial power, as demonstrated against Akainu's Meteor Volcano. 295

Energy Extraction and Absorption

Morito extracts energy from living beings through the Tenseigan.

  • Drains body and mental energy from thousands of soldiers to restore his injuries. 163
  • Absorbs energy from animals and giant Sea Kings for continued growth. 166
  • Can remotely absorb Chakra through Tenseigan Chakra control. 349
  • Extraction may leave targets unconscious or dead. 165

Byakugan and Gentle Fist

Before the Tenseigan's evolution, Morito relied on the Byakugan and Gentle Fist to perceive and strike chakra or vital points.

  • Targets acupoints to immobilize or permanently cripple opponents, as with Onigumo. 16
  • Uses vital-point strikes to incapacitate groups at extreme speed. 45
  • Identifies opponents' movements, breathing, and bodily details across the battlefield. 18
  • Can seal opponents' pressure points, leaving their bodies immobile while retaining consciousness. 43

Haki

Morito possesses both Observation and Armament Haki, trained extensively under Zephyr.

  • Uses Observation Haki for prediction and battlefield awareness. 20 35
  • Uses Armament Haki in offense and defense, including against Zephyr and during large-scale battles. 20 36 68
  • Improved his Armament Haki through a full day of punishment-style sparring with Zephyr while his Byakugan was sealed. 35 36

Chakra and Combat Techniques

Morito combines Chakra with physical combat and Marine techniques.

  • Soru — enhances the Marine Six Styles technique with Chakra bursts, giving him exceptional speed. 5 30
  • Revolving Heaven — a rotating Chakra defense used to counter Zephyr's attacks, though it can be broken by overwhelming force. 19 20
  • Air Bullets — Chakra projectiles capable of dispersing Perona's Negative Ghosts when infused with Sage Chakra. 253
  • Empty Bullet — a ranged technique blocked by Imu's Armament Haki. 418
  • Lightning Style: False Darkness — ineffective against Imu due to his magic immunity. 418

Yin-Yang Release and Yang Release

Morito uses Yin-Yang Release for healing, creation, manipulation, and the absorption of special powers.

  • Can cure Platinum Lead Syndrome with a high success rate. 205
  • Creates controllable non-living constructs by merging part of his consciousness with Yin-Yang Release. 274
  • Can control earth, seawater, wind, lightning, fire, and other non-living matter as extensions of himself. 274
  • Uses Yang Release and Sage Chakra to regenerate lost limbs and heal injuries. 423

Truth-Seeking Orbs

Three black spheres that Morito can manifest, manipulate, and reshape.

  • Transform into Black Rods for close-range killing strikes. 416
  • Assist him in outmaneuvering Sengoku and Steel Bone Kong. 159
  • Can be controlled alongside spatial jumps and high-output Tenseigan techniques. 416

Swordsmanship

Following his battle with Imu, Morito acknowledges physical combat as a weakness and begins formal swordsmanship training under Koshiro.

  • Commits to swinging a sword one thousand times daily to develop familiarity and insight. 427
  • Chose Koshiro as a teacher rather than seeking a stronger sparring partner. 426

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Truth-Seeking Orbs — shape-shifting black spheres used for offense and control. 416
  • Black Rods — weaponized forms of Truth-Seeking Orbs. 251 416
  • Seastone handcuffs — used to suppress and kill a Devil Fruit-using Five Elder. 478
  • Ope Ope no Mi — taken from Barrels and Rosinante. 204
  • Time-Time Fruit — its time power is later devoured to awaken his Tenseigan. 370
