Background

Naruto is the son of Namikaze Minato and Uzumaki Kushina. On the night of his birth, Obito abducts him and extracts Kurama from Kushina, precipitating the Nine-Tails' attack on Konoha. Minato later divides Kurama's soul and chakra, preparing to seal part of it into Naruto. 247 248 251

A later encounter at the Rōran Ruins sends an older Naruto and the Nine-Tails within him into the past through the Dragon Veins. There, he meets the younger versions of Kushina, Minato, Kakashi, and Yamanaka Tohru; Kurama identifies the displacement as time travel. Kushina quickly accepts Naruto as her son after he calls her “Mom.” 109 110

Naruto grows up under Kushina's care and with frequent support from Yamanaka Tohru. Some villagers fear him because of his connection to the Nine-Tails, causing him to avoid people who treat him coldly.
