In the early morning, Chen Shouyi seemed to faintly hear thunder, but he didn't think much of it. He rolled over and went back to sleep.

The next morning, he got up, washed, and packed his belongings.

He had been in Dongning City for seven days. He had completely adapted to his greatly increased strength, making it his own, and planned to return to Hedong today. He gently scooped up Shell Girl, who was still fast asleep, put her in his briefcase, then stuffed the briefcase into his suitcase.

"Handsome, are you checking out today?" the pretty receptionist asked, her tone carrying a hint of regret.

"I've finished what I came to do, so of course I'm going back," Chen Shouyi said with a smile.

After checking out and collecting his deposit,

he carried the sword case in one hand and his suitcase in the other, then left the hotel.

"To the high-speed rail station?" Chen Shouyi asked.

"Are you going on vacation or visiting family?" The driver was quite the chatterbox and started talking as soon as Chen Shouyi got in.

Chen Shouyi answered now and then, more or less going along with him.

The car had only gone halfway when Chen Shouyi saw military vehicles racing past, packed with soldiers armed to the teeth. A short while later, several armored vehicles went by as well.

Surprised, Chen Shouyi asked the driver, "What happened last night?"

"I don't know, either. Maybe it's a drill?"

Dongning had only recently been under martial law, so the driver was used to this sort of thing. He said unconcernedly, "This is nothing in Dongning. Not long ago, downtown was like a battlefield. You could hear gunfire everywhere."

Chen Shouyi smiled and said nothing.
