The living room

"Dad, Mom, it's getting late. I'm leaving!" Chen Shouyi glanced at the time as he spoke, then picked up the backpack from the sofa and slung it over his shoulder.

Mother Chen hurriedly stood up. "Come back as soon as you've finished the mission!"

"Don't be careless. Be careful when you're out," Father Chen said.

"Brother, don't forget my present!"

Hearing his sister, Chen Shouyi couldn't help feeling speechless.

A present?

She still wanted a present?

How about a nuclear bomb?

To keep his family from worrying, he had naturally described this mission as an ordinary escort and security job. At most, he would be gone a little longer, as if he could finish it with a casual wave of his hand.

"Got it. Dad, Mom, don't see me off."

As he spoke, Chen Shouyi walked out the door and hurried into the distance.

At that moment, something stirred faintly against his chest. A tiny head stealthily poked out from the collar of his coat. It looked around cautiously and quickly, but when it saw pedestrians everywhere on the road, it immediately shrank back in fright.

Chen Shouyi lowered his head and glanced at his chest. He couldn't help laughing, and his oppressed mood immediately lightened considerably.

He hurried along the road. After roughly ten minutes, he reached the city government square.

Eight Steam Trucks were lined up in a row across the square.

Four of them had already been modified. Their cargo beds had been welded over with thick, fully enclosed steel plates. They were probably meant to transport the nuclear bombs.

The other four had not undergone any major modifications, but each had a machine gun welded onto its cab.

About a company of soldiers stood beside the trucks. The atmosphere was solemn and heavy.
