This was an upscale residential complex, with well-maintained landscaping and trees everywhere. Amid the lush greenery, the creature leaped and scrambled through the branches. In barely a breath, it had closed in on the crowd.
Its fangs showed, its face twisted into a snarl as it stared fixedly at them.
It clearly had no intention of fleeing. It meant to kill the people who had attacked it.
Just then, one of the special police officers—perhaps inexperienced, perhaps simply too nervous—suddenly threw a stun grenade. It hit the ground with a deafening bang and a blinding flash.

Suddenly, a scream rang out.
Chen Shouyi whipped around toward the sound. A sniper crouched on the wall, his neck nearly torn off. Through the grisly wound, Chen Shouyi could even see a bloodied vertebra.
A dozen meters from the body, a blurred figure scrambled toward another special police officer at breakneck speed. The officer hadn't even reacted when the creature's sharp claws flashed out like lightning.
