In the Mist Forest, shrouded in ancient legends, sunlight could barely pierce the overlapping canopy, scattering mottled patches of light and shadow. This was a trial ground countless adventurers dreamed of, and also the first stop on young Lin Yi's journey.
Lin Yi, a youth born in a remote little village, had harbored boundless yearning for the unknown world since childhood. Within him flowed a bloodline unknown to others. It quietly awakened when he was sixteen, granting him the ability to sense the primordial energy of heaven and earth. From then on, the course of his life changed beyond recognition.
The Mist Forest was said to conceal countless encounters and dangers, making it an ideal place to temper one's will and hone one's strength. Lin Yi carried a simple pack on his back as he set foot upon this road filled with the unknown. In his heart lay both a longing for the unknown world and unease over its unseen dangers.
The moment he entered the forest, dense mist rushed toward him as if it meant to swallow him whole. Lin Yi took a deep breath and, relying on his sharp perception of primordial energy, carefully moved through the trees. From all around came the low growls of wild beasts at times and strange birdcalls at others, every sound seeming to test his will.
Suddenly, a burst of hurried footsteps shattered the silence. Lin Yi turned around alertly and saw a swift wolf beast lunging toward him. Its eyes gleamed green, its fangs bared; it had clearly marked him as prey.
Lin Yi's heart tightened, but he did not retreat. He swiftly drew upon the primordial energy within his body, gathering it in his palm before forcefully sweeping his hand forward. A dazzling flash of light streaked out, and the wolf beast was knocked several steps back by the force, a flicker of terror crossing its eyes.
"Humph, a mere wolf beast dares block my path!" Lin Yi snorted coldly. His figure flashed, and he appeared at the wolf beast's side like a ghost, striking its head with a palm. The wolf beast howled miserably and collapsed to the ground, utterly losing the strength to resist.
This small battle gave Lin Yi a clearer understanding of his own strength. He knew well that in this Mist Forest, only through constant challenges and continuous breakthroughs could he become stronger.
As he continued deeper into the forest, Lin Yi's steps grew increasingly heavy. The surrounding trees became taller and denser, and sunlight could only spill through narrow gaps between the leaves in tiny specks, making the forest appear gloomy and mysterious.
Before he had gone far, a low roar suddenly came from ahead. Lin Yi's heart clenched as he cautiously approached its source. There, he saw a gigantic demon beast covered from head to toe in sharp spikes glaring at him like a tiger watching its prey. The demon beast bared its claws and fangs, breathing out scorching air as though it wished to swallow Lin Yi in a single bite.
Yet Lin Yi was not frightened by the sight before him. He took a deep breath and quickly began observing the demon beast's weaknesses. After examining it carefully, he discovered that although the beast looked ferocious, its right leg seemed injured, making its movements somewhat sluggish. Lin Yi decided to exploit this opening and attack.
His figure flashed as he evaded the demon beast's lunging claws. At the same time, he swung the longsword in his hand, stabbing straight toward its right leg. The demon beast roared in pain and pounced at Lin Yi even more frenziedly. But Lin Yi had long been prepared. He nimbly darted and dodged around the beast, constantly seeking an opportunity to land a fatal blow.
After a fierce struggle, Lin Yi finally struck the demon beast's vital point, sending it crashing to the ground, unable to rise again. He wiped the sweat from his forehead, secretly relieved that he had overcome another hurdle.
After a brief rest, Lin Yi continued onward. This time, what he encountered was no longer a ferocious demon beast, but a maze-like network of winding, intricate paths. These roads twisted and turned, branching off in countless directions, making it easy for anyone to lose their way.
Lin Yi walked carefully while leaving markers along the route. Yet even so, he accidentally entered a dead end. Left with no choice, he had to retrace his steps and search again for the correct path.
Just then, Lin Yi suddenly heard a faint rustling sound from not far away. He stopped warily and listened closely. A moment later, he realized that several small wild beasts were foraging nearby. An idea struck him, and he quietly followed behind them, hoping they could lead him to an exit.
Sure enough, following the small beasts, Lin Yi successfully made his way out of the maze-like paths. Just as he let out a breath of relief, he failed to notice a deep trap hidden beneath his feet.
"Ah!" With a cry, Lin Yi fell into the trap. It was filled with sharp wooden stakes; if someone fell carelessly into it, the consequences would be unthinkable. Fortunately, Lin Yi reacted quickly. As he fell, he grabbed a branch at the edge of the pit, keeping himself from plunging straight to the bottom.
He summoned every ounce of strength and climbed upward with great difficulty. After exhausting the strength of nine oxen and two tigers, he finally crawled out of the trap. Lin Yi was utterly exhausted by then, but he knew that even more hardships might await him ahead. Still, with unwavering conviction and exceptional wisdom and courage, he believed he would surely overcome every challenge and ultimately achieve his goal.
In this forest full of trials, Lin Yi not only trained his strength but also tempered his will. He learned how to seek a chance at life in desperate straits and how to remain calm amid adversity. All of it would become the most precious wealth on his future journey.
When Lin Yi stepped out of the Mist Forest, he carried an added measure of composure and confidence. He knew this was only the beginning of his journey, and that a far broader world awaited his exploration ahead. And he was already prepared to face those unknown challenges and opportunities.
