They followed the Dark Lake downward. Now, they were nearing the deepest reaches underground, the border of the Golden Country, and the road ahead could hardly be called cramped.

Yet those shuddering roars still lingered above the rough stone ledges, rattling every Drow Elf's eardrums. They had dealt with Giant Dragons before.

That was how they knew those roars could hardly signify friendliness.

But they knew something else even better: when you heard a Dragon Roar, it usually meant the dragon had noticed you. It was a warning to intruders, a display of power-and it meant the dragon had already reached a position from which you could not escape.

The scouts instinctively drew together, enclosing Tang Qi, Shalti, and even the Matron Mother in the very center of their formation.

Their eyes could see through darkness, but not through the shadows dozens of meters away. They tried lifting their violet oil lamps higher, casting light into more distant corners while keeping watch all around-

"I don't see anything," one scout said nervously. "Maybe it's just warning us not to come closer?"

This was, after all, a lair occupied by Giant Dragons. They would not attack the people of the Golden Country, but neither would they let them take whatever they pleased from the ancient ruins.

Night Shadow wholeheartedly agreed. To her, these Giant Dragons were the ancient empire's most loyal guardians. Otherwise, how could they have answered the call and appeared before them the instant they touched the Beacon?

"No."

Tang Qi's [True Sight] helped him pierce the darkness farther ahead.

At the edge of the violet glow, he could just make out an unusual trace of dark green.

It was a glow commonly seen in Spider City.

But it was absolutely not a color they should have seen here.
