A Matter of Life and Death
After familiarizing themselves with the materials they had received, the new members of the Samos Family's hereditary mental illness research and treatment team finally got the chance to meet a patient.
The most mysterious place in Huxi City Seventh People's Hospital—the "cold palace" in the legendary "harem," or perhaps the "forbidden palace."
As soon as they entered the heavily guarded Intensive Care Unit, Chen Sheng and the others felt their spirits sink for no apparent reason. The atmosphere seemed to weigh on them, like a heavy burden pressing down on their shoulders, and even their steps slowed.
"Everyone, please strictly follow the rules here. Don't wander off, don't leave the guards' sight, and don't knock on or open doors without permission, so we can avoid any unnecessary incidents. The patients being treated here are all potentially dangerous. So far, only one patient has ever escaped, and he didn't meet a good end: the police shot him in the head, killing him instantly."
Li Bai led the way and reminded the seven new members following behind him once again.
They didn't take the elevator. Instead, they climbed the stairs, taking the opportunity to look around the entire Intensive Care Unit.
People with mental illnesses who committed crimes, even murder, might not be sentenced, but they were usually shot on the spot. Don't think mental illness was a shield; sometimes it was a death warrant. Police officers with guns didn't have time to determine whether someone was having an episode. To protect the lives of the public, opening fire was the best choice.
Chen Sheng curled his lip, looking unconvinced.
Li was spouting nonsense again, making a mountain out of a molehill.
Through the transparent doors, he saw people sitting quietly, either reading books or newspapers.
