Great Dean Zhou was still only half convinced.
After all, this kid was already so skilled that it was hard to tell whether he was telling the truth.
"It was just breakfast. Was there really any need to hypnotize someone?"
Li Bai had a perfectly reasonable explanation. He really was innocent.
Who would go around hypnotizing people for no reason?!
That made sense, of course. Even if he could convince Great Dean Zhou, it would probably be hard to convince anyone else.
In the brief two hours over lunch, the story spread like wildfire among the attendees. Almost everyone found out who Professor Eikabod had encountered at breakfast.
The young really were fearless. A newly recognized young hypnosis master from China had taken the initiative to challenge a foreign master—and had actually succeeded.
By then, even if Li Bai wanted to explain, it was too late, even though he really was innocent.
Professor Eikabod Royce, who thought he'd been made a fool of, struck back quickly.
At the afternoon gathering, he singled out Li Bai to serve as his hypnosis demonstration assistant. There was no room to refuse.
This was a special event prepared for the foreign guest of honor. The hypnosis masters from China were waiting for Eikabod to show them what he could do.
As the guest invited onto the stage, Li Bai had no right to refuse. He had to go up whether he wanted to or not, so he could only climb onto the stage looking bewildered. Great Dean Zhou would have gladly gone up in his place, but Eikabod hadn't asked for him!
Professor Qi Weiwen, Old Man Zhong, and the others were looking forward to seeing the clash between this top American hypnosis master and an outstanding young Chinese
