1132. Joining the Camp
Since they had already checked in, they were assigned rooms as soon as they arrived at the camp.
The camp had been built in a hurry, so there was no real interior decorating to speak of. The floors were all bare concrete, and the walls had only been given a quick coat of white paint.
Each dorm room housed two people. The beds were fairly large, two meters long and 1.2 meters wide. They were folding military cots with wooden slats; all you had to do was unfold one and set it on the floor to sleep.
The bedding had already been laid out before the newcomers arrived: bamboo mats, mosquito nets, and thin blankets.
Mogadishu was close to the equator, so it was basically summer all year round. Whether you had a blanket or not made little difference, but mosquito nets were essential. Without one, it was easy to contract malaria.
Apart from the beds, the room had only a shared bedside table and two clothes racks made of wooden slats. There wasn't even a desk or a proper wardrobe. The facilities were worse than those at the training base in the capital.
A potted plant sat on the shared bedside table between the two beds. No one knew where they'd dug up the wild weed, but it had grown lush and vibrant.
Inside the bedside table, which had no doors, were three sets of plastic washbasins in different sizes and depths, for washing your head, feet, and butt, along with several towels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and cups. Pretty much everything you needed was there.
"Whoa! The conditions here are pretty basic! They don't even have desks."
Sun Nanzheng, who was sharing a room with Li Bai, looked all around, utterly incredulous.
