Chapter 1144 - War Descends
Dinner was served alongside the celebration. The Chinese side provided various canned foods and beer, while the tribe provided barbecued meat, flatbread, and assorted fruits.
Of course, the barbecue wasn't made from any of those unsavory kinds of meat. No primates were involved. It was a whole wild buffalo, butchered and cut into pieces, then roasted over the fire until the fat sizzled. The crispy outer layer was sliced off with a sharp knife.
Once the meat was plated, they sprinkled it with a little salt and crushed local herbs. The main dish was thin pancakes fried from wheat flour, with several spicy sauces to choose from. Everyone got a large plate, and they were free to eat with their hands.
The Somali people didn't have much in the way of tableware. Being able to serve food on plates was already quite modern.
In the past, they would have used broad leaves, handmade clay bowls, or even slabs of stone. They couldn't even make pottery.
As for forks and spoons, that was out of the question.
The Chinese, however, had come prepared, bringing stainless steel spoons and disposable bamboo chopsticks.
The beef and Somali pancakes were cooked, so there was no need to worry about hygiene. With salt and herbs, the food tasted pretty good, whether eaten on its own, wrapped up together, or dipped in the specially prepared sauce.
