"Where is he? Where'd he go?"
It was pitch-black around them. Only the fires in the distance at the Papagana Tribe blazed into the sky. Luan Zhengwei had completely lost track of Li Bai. One moment, Li Bai had still been speaking; the next, he was gone. Where was Luan Zhengwei supposed to look?
He was slipperier than a Special Forces Soldier. Had he gotten into the wrong line of work?
Comrade Zhengwei looked left and right, but couldn't find a single clue.
"This guy's pretty professional. We can't find him at all."
"Any readings on the infrared thermal imager?"
"Nothing. It's like he vanished into thin air. Can you confirm Li Bai's position?"
"If you can't see him, how could we possibly have found him?"
The three soldiers keeping watch and the people in the RV were all unable to spot Li Bai. Each of them marveled at his skill.
But they found him soon enough.
At some point, Li Bai had appeared by a gap in the Papagana Tribe's perimeter fence. He waved at them, then... strolled right inside, casually kicking unconscious a gunman who was trying to struggle to his feet. He'd be better off lying still!
Wasn't the plan to just fool around outside? How had he ended up going in?
The man lying on the RV roof with an infrared telescope said glumly, "Li Bai went inside!"
He'd watched Li Bai's silhouette disappear into a vast, conspicuously bright-red area of intense heat inside the Papagana Tribe, and then lost track of him completely.
"We can't see him anymore. Should we go in and take a look?"
