A Brain Is a Wonderful Thing

Although the truck carrying the Apostles had been specially reinforced, with alloy steel plates and Kevlar lining its bed panels, it could only withstand sustained fire from small-caliber weapons for a short time.

After taking too many bullets, though, even it couldn't hold out. It quickly became riddled with holes and looked ready to fall apart at any moment.

Still, the advantage remained with Brant and his men.

Boom!

A fireball exploded!

A van pursuing the truck from about thirty meters behind it was torn to pieces in the flames. Something vaguely human-shaped flew out, and the AK-47 that had been roaring moments earlier fell silent for good.

An SUV behind it couldn't brake in time and slammed into one of the large fragments. It rolled off the roadbed, and faint cries and screams could be heard.

The rain fell like a curtain, but the flames couldn't be doused anytime soon. From far away, one could still see fire and smoke rising from the vehicles destroyed by gunfire.

Fortunately, the Apostles were carrying heavy weapons with tremendous firepower, specifically intended to deal with Armored Nightmares. The sheet metal of those civilian vehicles was like paper, torn to shreds with ease. The people inside, naturally, didn't stand a chance. It was a gruesome sight.

The sudden firefight lasted only about ten minutes. Not a single vehicle remained behind the truck.

The pursuing force had been scattered by the fierce firepower. Most of them had died without a trace.

"Hahahaha! Those bastards are finally dead!"

Brant raised a specially made 12.7-millimeter automatic rifle and roared skyward like a madman.

Only Apostles, who had undergone human enhancement, could wield such powerful individual weapons with ease.

"Someone's still watching us!"

One of the Apostles pointed at the sky.
