The Great Wizard
The manor owner, Rashid, rambled on and on for at least half an hour, chattering about his curiosity about witchcraft and his admiration for Wizards. Li Bai yawned repeatedly and had Xiaolin translate only the important points.
Otherwise, Rashid would tire himself out talking, and Li Bai would tire himself out listening.
Li Bai wasn't the only one. Everyone else was getting drowsy, too.
If even a sycophant met a bad end, what hope was there for someone sucking up to Wizards?
As important figures in their respective tribes, the Wizards present certainly wouldn't be swayed by a little food and drink.
What was wrong with this chubby black man? Did he really think that ingratiating himself like this would earn him a place in the Wizards' circle?
Everything Rashid said hinted that he wanted to become one of the Wizards' apprentices, but that sort of good fortune didn't come so easily.
What if he lacked the talent? That would only ruin their reputations. Many Wizards could tell at a glance that this rich man wasn't cut out for it. Besides, he'd been swindled dozens of times in recent years by charlatans, and his reputation as a gullible sucker had spread far and wide.
If they really took on this fool, they'd probably get dragged down with him.
As a result, even fewer people were willing to humor the deluded chubby man.
Though Rashid talked until he was hoarse, he still failed to win the favor of a single Wizard. Even the notorious Black Wizard showed little interest. A fatso like this wasn't even qualified to make a Witch Puppet.
The meeting hall fell completely silent. Crestfallen, Rashid had no choice but to wrap up his long-winded opening remarks.
