Searching for Meteorites
Several people passed the three meteorites around, examining them carefully.
Lu Sanhu savored the private-style roast minced beef Li Bai had seasoned himself and said, "The round one was the one I fished out of the water. I found the other two in the plane wreckage. They were embedded inside the plane and had bored some really deep holes."
The culprit behind the crash of the turboprop regional airliner carrying everyone had been that meteor falling from the sky. It had not merely grazed the plane and triggered the chain-reaction collapse of one wing; some small fragments had also fallen onto the aircraft.
The wing breaking apart had only been one of the reasons the plane lost control, not the whole story. With a meteorite of such terrifying force passing by, how could it possibly be dismissed so lightly?
The strange rocks found in the plane wreckage afterward had the same external characteristics as the rock found in the stream. Lu Sanhu believed that the spherical stone he had picked up was very likely a genuine meteorite, though it had simply landed somewhere else.
Meteorites falling from the sky were probably scattered across a considerable area. Being lucky enough to pick one up was already quite a stroke of fortune.
After all, when a meteorite entered the atmosphere, it was not necessarily burned from beginning to end as a single piece. It often broke apart continuously along the way, growing smaller and smaller as it burned.
With good luck, remnants would remain and land successfully. With bad luck, they would vaporize directly in the atmosphere, leaving nothing behind.
"Is there something special about them?"
When Zabu saw the three meteorites return to Li Bai's hands, he noticed that Li Bai continued examining them over and over.
