Mind's Eye
Li Bai said casually, "What's with the middle finger?"
What?
Zabu looked behind Lu Sanhu in confusion, even shining his flashlight over there. His mouth slowly fell open.
He could confirm that Uncle Biao's hand, held behind his back, was definitely outside Li Bai's field of vision. Yet the fist had one finger raised, exactly as Li Bai had said.
W-was this X-ray vision?
"How did you see that?"
Lu Sanhu finally brought his hand around to the front.
Li Bai hadn't "guessed" wrong.
"Use your eyes to see, your ears to hear, your nose to smell, and your skin to feel the changes in the air. And use your heart to perceive carefully!"
Li Bai pointed in turn to his eyes, ears, nose, the back of his hand, and his chest.
In Chinese culture, the heart that moved blood through the body was the literal, physical heart. It wasn't the same as the "heart" where the soul resided. There were plenty of easily confused terms like that.
Lu Sanhu stared at his hand in disbelief and stammered, "What the hell, what the hell? You're doing something way too high-level. I can't understand a word!"
One test was enough. The other man hadn't just named how many fingers were raised; he'd identified the middle finger exactly. That was no simple guess. If he had X-ray vision, that would be one thing, but mind-reading would be even more terrifying.
"How about this? I'll let you experience it for yourself."
Li Bai began forming hand seals. All he was doing was temporarily stimulating the acupuncture points and meridians of the extraordinary vessels, thereby sharpening the five senses for a short time. Once they reached a certain level, they might get the chance to touch the edge of a sixth sense:
