Black List
A half-month recovery leave meant Li Bai could spend another fifteen days of his peacekeeping service at liberty. He wouldn't have to be on duty, stand guard, or go on missions, and his service record wouldn't suffer in the slightest. It was practically a paid vacation—there was no better deal. The others could only dream of getting the same.
No wonder Li Feng, the Medical Team's head, could never look at Li Bai without finding something wrong with him.
While Li Bai was still packing in his dormitory, someone came to tell him that a visitor was waiting outside.
When he went to meet them, he found it was none other than the local mayor, an old acquaintance of the Chinese peacekeeping force.
People didn't come calling without a reason, but Li Bai had no idea what the mayor wanted.
"Doctor Li, Doctor Li! At last, I've found you!"
Mayor Old Hei looked deeply anxious. He kept glancing around as if watching out for someone, and seemed extremely cautious.
"What are you worried about?"
Li Bai immediately saw that something was off.
Mayor Old Hei relaxed a little and said uneasily, "Those Black Wizards... have they come looking for trouble with you?"
Not long ago, Black Wizards from a native tribe had hired a lone assassin to kill Li Bai. Fortunately, the attempt had failed, and the assassin had been caught red-handed. It had nearly caused a major incident.
The town was small and couldn't withstand that kind of turmoil. Mayor Old Hei wanted nothing more than to live in peace.
He hadn't heard anything about what happened afterward, and the uncertainty had left him unable to eat or sleep. He worried by day and feared by night, and had lost a great deal of weight.
