History in the Temple
The Feathered Serpent God temple worshipped by the Kakaya tribe was an imposing sight. It was both grand and rugged, yet also finely crafted. After generations of upkeep and restoration, few details had been neglected, making the towering structure seem like a work of art.
Although there weren't enough windows to let in much light, the interior wasn't so dark that you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. It was merely a little dim.
The blazing braziers that burned year-round, along with dozens of oil lamps scattered throughout the temple, illuminated most of the area.
With the added light from their flashlights, they could see every corner clearly.
"Other than thieves, no one would touch these jewels."
Li Bai looked around. The earthenware jars encircled the Feathered Serpent God statue and the altar. Clearly, they were both communal property and offerings meant to curry favor with the gods. Once they were placed here, they belonged to the gods, and no one would dare touch them.
Anyone who touched them without knowing better would be poisoned without realizing it. By the time they noticed, the poison would likely have already killed them.
"That was close! So close!"
Zhao Ziwu backed away several steps, patting his chest in lingering fright.
People in the martial world were truly treacherous. You could never be too careful.
Greed was a demon. It really could cost someone their life!
"Professor, this is the Kakaya tribe's temple. Is there any treasure here?"
Just then, Miyazaki Jiro entered, supporting Professor Yamada.
The sound of flapping wings came from the depths of the temple hall, followed closely by hurried footsteps.
"Kukulkan, come back!"
"Li Bai, it's happening again!"
Zhao Ziwu looked toward the sound and shone his flashlight. Its beam caught a
