Chapter 40 - Brother Yang's Fate
Returning to his new home at 1901, the room lights were on, but the DELL laptop screen in the study was black. Li Bai touched the keyboard; it was cold.
He then looked at the Demoness. Her flood dragon body was coiled up, absorbing demonic energy. Tiny specks of light swirled around her.
Li Bai nodded in satisfaction. At last, she knew how to cultivate obediently instead of being a lazy, good-for-nothing demon pet.
The food packed from his grandmother's house was on the dining table.
"Dinner time!"
Anyway, monsters didn't have set meal times or the concept of three meals a day. They ate when they were hungry. It was even more so for the Demoness, who had transformed from a green snake into a flood dragon. Eating once every three years, and having it last for three years, wouldn't be surprising.
"What's delicious?"
The demonic energy suddenly retracted, completely disappearing into her flood dragon body. The Green Flood Dragon agilely darted out of the study and landed on the dining table in the living room, circling the bag containing several paper takeout boxes.
Ever since this monster had been conquered by instant noodles, she thought she had tasted the ultimate essence of human delicacies. But soon after, she was conquered by various foods from modern society.
Whenever Li Bai brought anything edible home, she would always eagerly anticipate new surprises.
The Great Demon did not disappoint the Demoness. Thickly sliced beef tongue, foie gras, tea tree chicken, four or five kinds of dishes filled four or five paper takeout boxes.
As the Demoness tore open the bag and began to devour the food, her mobile phone rang. Li Bai glanced at it; it was his old landlord, Yang Fa. He immediately and decisively hung up.
Given that guy's temper, any call would surely be unpleasant.
The other party persistently called again. No words needed, he hung up again.
After four or five consecutive calls, Li Bai finally answered helplessly.
"Hey Li, what do you mean by this?"
Yang Fa was almost driven mad, but after being hung up on several times, he probably no longer had the nerve to curse him out, or he'd just be hung up on again.
"Brother Yang, what are you talking about? I don't understand!"
Li Bai completely ignored the other party's furious questioning, even though he guessed the reason for his aggressive attitude.
"Why didn't you say anything before you moved out?"
"Huh? Brother Yang, didn't you say that if I didn't pay the rent for the next year, I had to move out immediately, or you'd throw my stuff out? So I had to move out right away!"
Li Bai's tone was full of innocence. The other party probably couldn't even find him if they wanted to kick him out.
Coincidentally, he had just found new rental housing. This stingy landlord from the past immediately chuckled.
"You can leave, but why did you pack up all your belongings? Where's the gas stove? The gas water heater? The range hood? You even took the ventilation fan, what do you mean by this!"
Yang Fa was completely interrogating him. Li Bai had dismantled the rental housing clean without a word. He couldn't even trick an unsuspecting tenant into paying rent.
"Brother Yang, that's not fair. The gas stove, water heater, range hood, and ventilation fan were all bought by me. You can't say they're yours, can you?"
Li Bai was both amused and annoyed. This guy was being completely unreasonable.
Furthermore, Officer Xiao Wang had told him at dinner that Yang Fa planned to sell the house and had already found a buyer. This last-minute rent increase was simply greedy and shameless.
A sale does not break a lease. Yang Fa had pocketed a full year's rent for nothing. The subsequent buyer would only truly get the house after a year.
If it weren't for the fact that he couldn't accept the ever-increasing high rent and had to find new rental housing, Li Bai would have almost fallen for this guy's trick.
"What? How could they be yours? Don't talk nonsense, or I'll deduct your deposit."
Li Bai's sudden move meant that both parties had completely fallen out. Yang Fa's shameless face was finally revealed in its entirety.
"When I first rented your place, there wasn't even a light bulb, let alone socket panels and faucets. Brother Yang, you know exactly what you added. The items I took all have invoices. As for the deposit, you weren't going to return it anyway, so I can't be bothered to argue with you. Alright, I'm very busy. Talk to you later!"
Li Bai had initially hoped to maintain a good relationship as landlord and tenant, so they could meet again in the future. He never expected this miser to shamelessly twist the truth.
"What did you say? What did you say? I'm telling you, if you don't bring the stuff back, I'll sue you! I'll find someone to break your legs..."
Since the dog's mouth can only spew rotten teeth, he simply hung up and blocked the number.
As for who bought the appliances and household items in the rental unit, Yang Fa was unwilling to think about it, convinced that those items belonged to him.
The world is full of people who think everyone owes them something.
With so many people in the world, there are all sorts of characters. Their personalities determine their fate. Scoundrels like Yang Fa would eventually suffer misfortune because of their own loose mouths. Li Bai couldn't be bothered to deal with him anymore.
After being hung up on again, Yang Fa called a few more times, only to hear a busy signal. Although Yang Fa was furious and jumping with rage, he was helpless. Li Bai had already moved elsewhere, and he couldn't find him even if he wanted to.
Because someone set a bad precedent, in the following days, several of Yang Fa's tenants quietly moved out one after another. Two of them even argued relentlessly with the unscrupulous landlord, demanding their deposits back. This led to the potential buyer witnessing the ongoing dispute upon arrival, causing them to immediately lose interest in purchasing. They were there to buy a house, not to buy trouble.
The tenants' careless remarks allowed the buyer to learn about Yang Fa's disgusting scheme of collecting rent in advance. These properties were quickly blacklisted by various real estate agencies, as no one wanted to be implicated by this scoundrel.
The houses couldn't be sold, and their reputation was ruined for future rentals. Just as Li Bai had predicted, Yang Fa finally reaped what he sowed. The successive blows landed him in the hospital.
However, Yang Fa's wife remained loyal. After giving him a black eye, she took diligent care of him.
After cultivating all night, it was already bright outside the window.
Li Bai slowly opened his eyes and released his hand towards the trash can by the bed. A handful of fine ash fell into the garbage bag inside the bin.
The cultivation of the Maha Bolan Sutra on the linkage of the upper, middle, and lower Dantians, combined with ten Spirit Crystals, not only restored ten percent of his Spiritual Power but also caused the Spirit Qi particles, solidified into the size of soybeans in his middle Dantian, to develop fine cracks on their surface. They could shatter into dust at any moment, reverting back to lively and pure Spiritual Qi, no longer bound by the rules of this world's heaven and earth.
The mist-like True Qi in his lower Dantian had transformed into a slowly rotating vortex. From the center of the vortex, a drop of Gang Qi would occasionally condense and fall into a small pool of Gang Qi below.
If his Martial Way cultivation could break through the current Transcendent Realm and enter the Origin Return Realm, his lower Dantian would directly generate Gang Qi, rather than slowly condensing True Qi into Gang Qi as it was now. However, this was also a normal process for the peak of the Transcendent Realm.
After a slight increase in cultivation, the Chaos Green Lotus entrusted to his mind regained much of its vitality. Although it wasn't as radiant as in the other world, with Spiritual Light filling its petals, the number of Spiritual Light particles released to refine the "Xuan Star" increased significantly.
However, this Natal Magic Tool, truly belonging to the Great Demon himself, remained dormant, unable to be unleashed for use.
Li Bai attributed this to the different rules of this world and his own cultivation not being fully recovered. He estimated that once he returned to his peak state, he could use this divine weapon again.
But who would he use it to cut? That was the question!
He couldn't possibly turn it into a scalpel to cut open a patient's frontal lobe, could he?
After all, a Psychiatrist could only operate in so many places, unlike those doctors who specialized in treating mental illnesses and could cut wherever they pleased.
Rustling sounds came from the living room. The Green Flood Dragon was coiling around a large rag, mopping the floor.
Steam wafted from the gas stove, cooking millet porridge and steaming frozen meat buns. Two fried eggs were placed on a plate on the dining table.
Li Bai looked over. The Demoness was indeed diligently doing housework. Although she hadn't taken human form, she was still very efficient. Not only had she prepared breakfast for both of them, but she had also tidied up the living room and study.
Her obedient behavior made Li Bai consider whether he should fulfill some promises as a small encouragement.
For example, buy her a mobile phone, or give her a bank card. Anyway, she could only play at home, so there was no fear of any trouble. WIFI internet was free, and the Demoness's destructive power was limited to this seventy-five square meter rental housing. At most, she could max out the limited phone bill.
