The master chef at one of Ginza's most famous sushi restaurants stared in confusion at his empty shop.
The counter was piled with palm-sized plates, surrounded by a huge stack of Fukuzawa Yukichi bills. The money was stacked high, and it was obvious the customers had already paid and left.
But his hands felt as heavy as lead, sore and numb, completely devoid of sensation.
The others looked just as bewildered. Nobody knew what had happened.
Who were the customers? How much had they eaten? Why was he so exhausted, with his back and waist aching?

Someone sucked in a sharp breath, realizing that his elbows, back, and waist felt as if they were being pricked with needles.
"The rice bins are completely empty!"
Someone else spotted another strange sight and nearly fell backward onto the floor in fright. The bins had held a week's supply of Niigata Special Grade Zhao Guang rice and Akita Komachi, rice used specifically for sushi.
The others were startled and hurried to check as well.
Not only were the rice bins empty, but every ingredient in the freezers and refrigerators had vanished too, as if a tornado had swept through. Not even a scrap of seaweed the size of a fingernail remained. The soy sauce bottles were bone-dry, as if they had been rinsed out.
The entire food storage area was so empty that even a mouse would have cried in dismay and run away.
The master chef cried out, "Amaterasu, tell us—how much sushi did we make?"
They were all overworked, utterly exhausted, and swaying on their feet, as if they had spent three days and three nights making sushi.
