Auditing the Accounts
Li Bai's resolute tone made Su Mei hesitate. She cared a great deal about what this male colleague and friend thought of her, even the slightest change in his attitude.
After a moment's hesitation, Su Mei said, "You're loaded and don't lack money anyway, so I'll accept this gift. But don't give me anything this expensive again. I'm just an ordinary citizen—I'll be scared."
She knew that a laptop at this price was nothing to Li Bai. Still, as a young woman, she had to maintain some restraint. She couldn't casually accept expensive gifts from other people.
Li Bai said with a laugh, "Go ahead and use it without worry. I'll pay more attention next time. From now on, I'll only give you bargain-bin goods. Happy now?"
It was only a joke.
Even if it wasn't a top-of-the-line brand-name product, it still had to at least look decent. It couldn't be some cheap counterfeit from an unknown brand.
"As long as it's from you, I'll take even bargain-bin goods!"
Su Mei laughed along with him.
Although she wasn't a wealthy heiress, she was a thrifty, gentle girl who could share both wealth and hardship. She wasn't overly concerned with material things.
This was entirely because of her upbringing. Neither Su father nor Su's mother was materialistic. Otherwise, they wouldn't have voluntarily offered to use more than a million yuan in savings to help with the down payment on their daughter's marital home.
If it had been another family, things probably wouldn't have been so certain.
Given Huxi City's level of consumption, there was a strong possibility that the woman's family would simply remain unmoved, pretending not to hear or see anything, and push the house, car, renovations, appliances, furniture, wedding banquet, and everything else onto the man.
