Why Are You Suing Me?
"Director Zhao!"
Old Zhang recognized the newcomer and immediately greeted him.
Whatever else, the man was the head of a district sub-bureau. The proper courtesies still had to be observed.
The Public Security System had originally split off from the military, and its every aspect bore the military's imprint.
Although it had been separated for many years, and even the Armed Police had officially been placed under local public security departments, ending any connection between the two, military officers still often transferred to local Public Security Departments. The ties couldn't easily be severed.
"Director Zhao!"
Wang might not have liked the head of the Shunping District Sub-bureau, but he still followed Old Zhang's lead and greeted him.
"Is something the matter?"
Li Bai figured they should have nothing to do with one another. They ought to go their separate ways, with no reason for their paths to cross.
"Uh..."
Zhao Biao hesitated. He had heard the rejection and distance in Li Bai's tone, but he persisted. "Would you mind?"
Li Bai narrowed his eyes slightly as he sized up this elder who had never seen eye to eye with Old Dad.
He didn't know the previous generation's grudge in much detail. Neither the old man nor Director Zhao had explained it, and neither had personally gone after Zhao Liang or Li Bai.
As for Zhao Xiaoliang, he had simply inherited the previous generation's incompatibility. Nothing about Li Bai sat right with him. Though he'd been taught a lesson time and again, Zhao Biao had never once stepped in on his son's behalf. Whether that was out of wariness, caution, or some other reason, Li Bai couldn't say.
Zhao Liang had once borrowed two police officers from the Shunping District Sub-bureau to throw his weight around.
